#1 Seeds Odds for 2012 NCAA Tournament
Written by Steve Janus - Google +
The 2012 NCAA Tournament brackets have been released and for the most part there were no arguments on the four No.1 seeds. Kentucky is the top seed overall and will play in the South region, with Syracuse being the No. 1 seed out of the East region, North Carolina the top seed out of the Midwest region, and Michigan State holding down the top spot in the West Region.
One of the great things about March Madness is all of the different angles for fans. There are NCAA tournament contests where people fill out their brackets in the hopes of cashing in on their office pools, fans who love trying to figure out which top seeds will get upset by their opponents, and others who focus on the top teams and who will will the tournament.
With this article we are going to focus on the top seeds and just how they will fare this year. I have listed each of the four No. 1 seeds odds to win the NCAA Tournament, odds to win their region, and whether or not they will make the Sweet 16. I’ve also thrown in some other No. 1 seed prop bets and included my thoughts on the wager.

How Many #1 seeds will make the Final 4 of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship?
0 +500
1 +150
2 +175
3 +500
4 +2000
All four No. 1 seeds have made the Final Four just one time (2008) since 1989, so while the 20-to-1 odds seem nice, it’s not likely to happen. I wouldn’t bank on zero to make the Final Four either, since at least one #1 seed has made it every year except 1980 and 2006. The most likely choice here is to go with 1 or 2, since exactly 1 or 2 #1 seeds have made the Final Four 18 out of 22 years! How Many #1 seeds will make the Final 4 of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship?
Over 1½ (EVEN)
Under 1½ (- 130)
My gut tells me to take the over here, since history indicated it more likely than one or less, but each year the field seems to get more balanced and the difference between the best teams in the country and the rest of the field is shrinking. I’ll probably stay away from this wager, but if I had to I’d go OVER.
How Many #1 Seeds will Make the Final 4 of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship?
Over 2½ (+450)
Under 2½ (- 650)
If you really feel like the No. 1 seeds are going to dominate this tournament, than you might want to skip over betting the total of 1.5 and take this bet with a much strong payout. This is definitely a risky bet. In the last 27 years, there have been just four times where three or more No. 1 seeds all made the Final Four.
Will a #1 Seed win the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament?
Yes -120
No -110
If you are like me and think Kentucky and North Carolina are going to be playing in the National Championship, you are going to be all over this prop bet. These are without question the two most talented teams in the country. Even if one of them gets upset, you still have a pretty good shot at the other cashing in this bet.
Got something to say?
