2006 NFL Predictions
Written July 22, 2008 by Jack Jones
If you are going to bet on football futures this year then take a look at our 2006 NFL predictions. We won’t waste any time trying to decipher all of the madness and tell you who we think will win each division, gain the two wild card sports in each conference, and then make their way to the Super Bowl. Let’s get started with the NFC East and our favorite to escape this difficult division is the Dallas Cowboys. The team made some nice additions in the off-season with the main one being Terrell Owens. Every team in this division has a chance to win the division, but the two strongest contenders are going to be the Washington Redskins, who like always spent a lot of cash to get better, and the New York Giants. The Giants are hoping that Eli Manning will develop and take them to the next step. Both the Redskins and the Giants are out picks to take home the wild card spots in the NFC. Philadelphia wants to prove they can live without Owens, but it’s going to be tough without a viable receiving threat on the field.
The NFC North is the Chicago Bears division to lose. The team returns all 22 starters from last season and is ready to take the next step. This year if Grossman can’t stay healthy they have someone else who can lead the team in Brian Griese. Of course that isn’t the only battle as Benson and Jones will fight over who will carry the ball. The Vikings are the only other playoff contender here, but with a new coach and no Culpepper, it’s hard to believe they are going to be good enough to catch the Bears.
The NFC South is another extremely difficult division that should belong to the Carolina Panthers. The team has battled injuries and if they can stay healthy, they will be a strong Super Bowl contender. Atlanta is the second best team in this division and will have a great shot at a wild card, but Tampa Bay is going to be breathing down their necks. A lot of people are forgetting this is the team that won the division last season and returns mostly intact.
The NFC West has only Seattle as a legitimate threat to win the division and move deep into the playoffs, but Arizona has made some moves and is quite possibly a team that could make some noise for the wild card. If you think Edge is going to help the NFL’s worst rushing attack that is and Kurt Warner can stay healthy.
The AFC East has been and will continue be the New England Patriots’s stomping ground. This team shows year after year under Brady and Belichick that they can get it done no matter how torn up they are due to injuries. Can you imagine the damage they could do healthy? Miami has a real shot at the wild card spot, but we don’t think this is the year they return to form.
The AFC North has two top tier teams in the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is our pick to win the division and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers will have a target on their backs this season and won’t be able to sneak by everyone like they did last year as the 6th seed. The Bengals need Palmer to recover from last year’s knee injury, but all signs point to him doing so. Look for Cincy to win the top wild card spot in the AFC.
The AFC South is going to be won by the Indianapolis Colts as they are the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season after coming so close last year. The team lost a big weapon in James, but they had plenty of offense to spare and still should be a viable threat. The Jags have been the up and coming team of the AFC, but this is not going to be the year that they make the jump to the big time.
The Denver Broncos are expecting big things after last season coming within a game of the big dance, and they should get the division title again this season. Plummer showed improvements and if he continues to make smart decisions then they could go all the way this year. Kansas City is the other team we have making the wild card, but they are going to get a tough fight from the Chargers. Our only doubts come with Phillip Rivers taking over for Drew Brees.
