2008-09 NBA Betting on UNDERS

Written January 22, 2009 by Jack Jones

charlotte-bobcatsWith the NBA season approaching the halfway mark we figured now would be a good time to take a deeper look at the ATS and totals records for each of the teams to find NBA betting trends. With this article we are going to show what we uncovered for the teams that are doing a great job playing UNDER the posted total. This could either be because their offense isn’t as prolific as previous years or maybe they are playing with a little more intensity on the defensive end. Whatever it is make sure you look to play these teams to stay UNDER the posted total.

New York Knicks (22 of 36 UNDER)

A lot of publicity was made about new head coach Mike D’Antoni coming into New York and turning the Knicks into the East’s version of the Phoenix Suns, but that hasn’t been the case. New York does have the sixth best offense in the league with just under 103 points per game and their defense has been horrible in giving up more than 106 per contest. With those numbers being so high you would expect the Knicks to be an over-lovers dream, but the totals have been set so high due to the expectations that quite the opposite is the case. This team has gone UNDER the posted total in 10 of 11 games since December 30th.

New Orleans Hornets (22 of 37 UNDER)

The high octane offense that Chris Paul brings to the floor shows that the Hornets are another team that the public feels is going to put up a ton of points every night. However, that hasn’t necessarily been the case this year as the Hornets have been cashing in for UNDER bettors all season long. Over the last five games New Orleans has averaged 190 total points per game to cash four out of five times for UNDER bettors. The UNDER has been especially profitable for New Orleans on their home floor, cashing in 11 of 18 times this season.

Charlotte Bobcats (23 of 39 UNDER)

The last team we are going to look at are the Bobcats. This team got into a scoring frenzy as the New Year came, going OVER in their first three games of 2009, but have since gone back to their UNDER cashing ways in scoring below the posted total in four out of their last five games. This team has the worst offense in the league at just over 91 points per game, but their defense is ranked sixth in the NBA by giving up under 94. This young team is trying to buy into Larry Brown and he knows that since their talent level is weaker than the rest of the league, it’s best not to get into a shootout if they hope to rack up wins.

Hopefully these three teams will help you cash in on the NBA odds a few more times this year.
