2008-09 NBA Betting Trends: OVERS
Written January 22, 2009 by Jack Jones
I’m going to continue my series on profitable NBA online betting trends with a look at which teams are doing a good job of hitting the OVER. These teams may be prolific on offense and terrible at defense, or maybe they just have a history of being UNDER teams and the NBA lines makers haven’t quite adjusted to their new styles of play. It is important for you to look at both season long and recent trends when making your NBA picks to see if you can see a team emerging.
Golden State Warriors (25-17 OVER)
The Warriors are doing a great job of cashing in for OVER bettors this year, which should be kind of a surprise because that trend has been going strong for about three years now. Don Nelson teams are big on offense, but you would think that the odds makers would start to adjust and set their over/unders pretty high. The Warriors have gone over in four out of their last five games and should only continue to improve on offense with the return of Monta Ellis to the lineup. His addition to the roster should happen here shortly, which should put the Warriors in an even better position to run the floor and make things happen. Golden State has hit the century mark in each of their last eleven games and should continue that trend when they add Ellis’ 20+ points per game to the fold.
Toronto Raptors (25-18 OVER)
One of the most disappointing teams in the league this year has been the Toronto Raptors. However, their offense surely hasn’t disappointed as bettors who have been following the OVER for Toronto have cashed in at a pretty healthy mark all season long. The Raptors had cashed four in a row for the OVER before going UNDER in their matchup against the Hawks, but that has to be taken with a grain of salt since Jermaine O’Neal was on the sidelines. The offense is only putting up 97.5 points per game, but the team is efficient in hitting 38% from three-point range and 46% from the field. The defense hasn’t been playing as well as in year’s past, which is the real reason this team is cashing big tickets for those who are riding the OVER train in Toronto.
