2008 ACC NCAA Football Predictions

Written July 13, 2008 by Jason Lowry

For those of you living in ACC country professional handicapper Jason Lowry is ready to give you his 2008 ACC Football season predictions. The ACC brings you some of the best talent you will find in all of the country and last year 33 players were taken in the NFL Draft. This year marks another season, and a chance for many new faces to make a name for themselves. Here is how we see the two divisions playing out in 2008.

ACC Atlantic
1) Clemson Tigers
The Tigers bring back a lot of starters from last year, and the offense looks like it will be explosive, and the defense could be just as good or better than last year’s squad that was near the top in many categories.

2) Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles come back from an average season at best on their standards, and we like this team to turn it around and add a couple more wins to last year’s total of 7.

3) Maryland Terrapins
The Terrapins are another team that we think is going to do much better in 2008, they bring back a lot of talent on the offensive end, and though the defense doesn’t get a lot back, they should be good enough to win football games.

4) Wake Forest Demon Deacons
It was tough puting the Deacons this low in our predictions, but we think the offensive struggles are going to be to much to overcome. The defense does return 9 starters so if a couple players step up on offense, this team will be much better than where we have them.

5) Boston College Eagles
The Eagles came off a solid run in 2007, but they lost way to much in quarterback Matt Ryan. Ryan made many of the players on this team look better than what they actually were. The defense doesn’t look much better with only 4 starters back.

6) North Carolina State Wolfpack
The Wolfpack is a team that is just missing a couple pieces here to be a real contender in this conference. While they are better than Duke they will likely be a team that gets beat almost every weekend.

ACC Coastal
1)
North Carolina Tar Heels
We absolutely love the Tarheels and think they have what it takes to overcome the Hokies and take over the Coastal division. The Tar Heels bring back 18 starters, and the offense might put up some big numbers this season. Watch out for the Tar Heels to win the ACC this season.

2) Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies are coming off a pretty solid season going 11-3, but they only bring back 10 starters. You know that Frank Beamer won’t let this team fall any farther than the top 3, and we think they are better than the bottom 4 in this division.

3) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets might be a stretch at No. 3, but we really like what we see in the young talent on this team. They are only playing 7 seniors, so this could be a team on the rise over the next couple years.

4) Miami Hurricane
We aren’t convinced that the Hurricane are ready to start winning on a consistent basis again, and thats why we got them finishing in the bottom half of this division for the 3rd straight year.

5) Virginia Cavaliers
We don’t think that the Cavaliers are ready to fall below the Blue Devils in this division, but they are going to struggle this year. Their 9-4 season a year ago was a good one, but many of the wins could have easily been losses.

6) Duke Blue Devils
The Blue Devils are year in and year out the bottom feeders of the ACC Coastal division, and we are sorry but these guys are not going to put together enough wins in conference play to get out of the cellar.
