2008 Barclays Predictions
Written August 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry
With the regular season wrapped up the PGA Tour now heads into its 2nd annual and highly anticipated FedEX Cup Playoffs. The defending champion Tiger Woods won’t be in action in any of the events, and even though he is the current leader it will be up to someone else to take home the trophy in 2008. To get the playoffs up and running this week golfers will head to The Barclays in New Jersey, as they will attempt to take down Ridgewood Country Club. The defending champion of this event will be in action, as Steve Stricker looks to make it two for two at the Barclays in the playoffs. With 144 golfers ready to take aim this weekend, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to bring you his 1-2-3 prediction for the tournament this weekend.
1. Padraig Harrington +1000 at BetUS.com
Its hard to pick anyone else after the performance this guy put on in the last two majors, as he first defended his championship at the British Open, then he went on a few weeks later to win the final major of the year at the PGA Championship. Harrington has shown that he is going to be a real force in the big time events without Woods in the field, so we see no reason why this guy won’t step up and play well this weekend, and all throughout the playoffs.
2. Anthony Kim +2500 at BetUS.com
Kim is a guy some are picking to win the whole playoffs, and its not to hard to see why. Kim has shown he can win, as he took home both the AT&T National and Wachovia Championship this season. While Kim played well finishing 7th at the British Open, he really struggled a couple weeks ago at the PGA Championship. Kim is pretty well average all around and will need his irons to be strong this weekend, as he has struggled in sand saves this season making just 48.7%. We think Kim gets everything roling and takes home the runner up this weekend.
3. Kenny Perry +4000 at BetUS.com
Perry is your current leader in the points standings, as he has racked up 3 wins and 7 top 10 finishes this season. The one thing that people have a problem with is that Perry failed to play in a single major this season, after he most recently withdrew from the PGA Championship. We don’t think the 48 year old has what it takes to win the playoffs, but we feel he has it in him to show everyone he is going to do just fine on the Ryder Cup team with a solid finish this weekend.
