2008 Belmont Stakes Picks
June 2, 2008
It’s time for our 2008 Belmont Stakes Picks, as the race is set to get underway on Saturday June 7th at Belmont Park in New York. This is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, and it will have what every horse racing fan dreams of, a horse with the shot at winning the Triple Crown. Big Brown dominated both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and will look to tackle the longest of the 3 races when he tries to win the 1.5 mile Belmont Stakes this weekend. We have already tackled some of the Belmont Stakes Facts and the contenders for the upcoming race, its now time we give you the 1-2-3 finish we see coming this weekend.
While it might seem easy to pick Big Brown and be done with it, but there is a lot more to just picking the horse with the best record. Probably the most important and yet the most overlooked thing is the distance of the race. Knowing how to pace the horse and not sending him to early could be the deciding factor in whether a horse finishes 1st or 2nd. Other things that can play a big role are if the horse is coming off injury or if the horse has had success on different styles of tracks. So take our advice for what its worth, but no matter what don’t just go picking a horse to win without knowing what he is going up against.
Win: Casino Drive - 7/2 odds at Bodoglife.com
It will be a very disappointing finish to the Triple Crown season, if Big Brown is unable to be the first horse in 30 years to win the Triple Crown. Sadly we are going with history on this one and we think that Big Brown is going to fall just short of this up and coming colt from Japan. This horse has not only dominated his first and only 2 races of his career, he is the brother of the last two Belmont Stakes winners. In what will be an upset for sure we see Casino Drive taking this one by a head.
Place: Big Brown - 1/3 odds at Bodoglife.com
What can we say this is one special horse, but it not only does it take talent to win the race, it takes some luck as well. Big Brown is also coming off a hoof injury, and even though they say its nothing, no one will really know till the horse begins his 1.5-mile race. We do think this horse will have a good race, but will lose a step and it will cost him in becoming the 12th winner of the Triple Crown.
Show: Behindatthebar –25/1 odds at bodoglife.com
This horse has a lot to prove after dropping out of both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, but this time he will get his chance at Big Brown and company to prove that he is one of the best 3-year-old thoroughbreds horse racers of today. We think that his horse made a wise move by not over doing and racing at the Derby, and an unfortunate injury caused him to miss the Preakness. Don’t get us wrong we think this will be a two horse race, but we do feel that Behindatthebar is the next best horse in the race.
