2008 BMW Championship Predictions
Written September 3, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Thursday Sept. 4th the 3rd leg of the FedEx Cup Playoff system gets underway at the 2008 BMW Championship. While the thought was to make the new point system so that one player couldn’t take a huge lead and run away with it, but after Vijay Singh took home the Deutsche Bank Champhionship by 5 strokes over Mike Weir, he has a pretty commanding lead. Singh has now won the first two events of the playoffs, and has a near 12000 point lead over Sergio Garcia. So it looks like you can pretty much put Singh’s name on the trophy in a year where Tiger Woods is unable to not only defend his 2007 BMW Championship but his FedEx Cup Championship as well. The tournament is going to be played whether Singh has it wrapped up or not, and Jason Lowry is going to bring you his weekly 1-2-3 finish prediction.

1. Sergio Garcia +900 odds at Sportsbook.com
Garcia continues to play well almost every single weekend, but he just hasn’t been able to cash in with a victory. It really looked like Garcia was going to break that streak last weekend after he came out strong to start the final round, but that changed quickly and he ended up fading when it was all said and done. We think Garcia finally starts dropping some putts and take home the trophy this weekend.
2. Phil Mickelson +1200 odds at Sportsbook.com
Mickelson has fallen all the way to 8th in the FedEx cup standings, after his 73rd place finish last weekend. If Mickelson wants any chance at coming back and making things interesting he not only needs to win, but needs some help as well. While it might be tough to have so many players play poorly, we think that Mickelson finally breaks out in the playoffs this season with a runner-up performance to Garcia.
3. Ernie Els +2000 ods at Sportsbook.com
Though Els is a long shot to come back and win the playoffs this season, this guy is one of the best golfers in the world, and he showed flashes of that last weekend when he came in tied for 3rd at the Deutsche Bank Championship. We think that Els keeps that smooth swing rolling and come out firing this weekend.
