2008 Boise State Broncos

Written July 19, 2008 by Jason Lowry

There is plenty of reason to get excited about the upcoming football season, and Jason Lowry is going to help get you going with hisĀ 2008 Boise State Broncos football predictions. The Broncos put together another solid season going 10-3, but did suffer a tough loss to East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl. This year head coach Chris Peterson brings back only 12 starters and it will need some big time play from some of its young players if they want to get back on top the WAC Conference, after finishing one game behind Hawaii last season. Lets take a little closer look at what the Broncos will be sending to the field on both sides of the ball in 2008.

Boise State Broncos odds for wins this season OVER/UNDER 10 WINS

Offense:
The Broncos only bring back 5 starters on this side of the ball, and it looks like they are going to turn their attention to redshirt freshman quarterback Kellen Moore to lead this team for and into the future. The team does bring back a very solid running back in senior Ian Johnson who rushed for over 1,000 yards and tallied 16 rushing touchdowns a year ago. Two more starters come back at the receiver position including senior Vinny Perretta who comes back from injury and junior Jeremy Childs who led the team with 1,045 yards and 9 touchdowns. The Broncos have to deal with finding 4 new faces on the offensive line as the only starter returning is senior right guard Andrew Woodruff. Two redshirt freshmen are expected to start this season at center in Thomas Byrd and at left tackle in Nate Potter. The line remains young at the other tackle spot in sophomore Matt slater, but they jump back up as senior Jon Gott takes over at the other guard spot.

Defense:
With 7 returning starters on this side of the ball, they have a little less to worry about than the offense. Two starters are back on the defensive lines in seniors Joe Bozikovich at tackle and Mike T. Williams at the end spot. Redshirt freshman JP Nisby is expected to jump in and start at the other tackle spot. At linebacker they get all 3 starters back and that should really help this side of the ball getting better. The secondary only brings back two starters in junior corner Kyle Wilson and sophomore free safety Jeron Johnson. Two more sophomores join the mix in corner Brandyn Thompson and strong safety Jason Roninson.

Prediction: 1st in the WAC Conference
Not only are we high on the Broncos to win the WAC Conference this year, but we think if they can take down Oregon on the road and Fresno State to finish their WAC season, this team could wind up in another BCS game this season.
