2008 Coke Zero 400

Written July 1, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Get ready for some fireworks this weekend at the 2008 Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola, as drivers make their way back to Daytona International Speedway. With the race being held on the fist weekend of July every year, ,many times fans get to not only enjoy our nations holiday, but some great racing as well. Last season Jamie McMurrray put an end to Tony Stewart’s two year run here for a big win at Daytona. With only 9 races remaining each race gets more and more important as the season nears its finish. Last week Kurt Busch was able to take home the checkered flag at the Lenox Industrial Tools 301, after brother Kyle Busch made an interesting pit during a caution late in the race, and many believe that is what cost him his 6th win of the season. With the mistake Busch finished 25th and allowed some of the drivers to get a little closer to his point lead. Professional handicapper Jason Lowry is ready to take a closer look at the top 3 favorites and the defending champion here at the Coke Zero 400.

Kyle Busch - 5/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Busch has been the best driver on the track this season, and he seems to be in every single race no matter what gets thrown at him. This weekend he will try to win at a track that he has yet to take down, but he faired well at the Daytona 500 finishing 4th for his best finish at the biggest race of the year. Busch seems to do much better in the second race here at Daytona, as he is coming off 2 straight second place finishes.

Tony Stewart 6/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Stewart has had plenty of success on this track, and it could be the weekend that that this guy breaks through for his much needed first win of the season. As we mentioned before Stewart won this race in 2005 and 2006, and a key to him winning this weekend could be where he starts, as he has either been 1st or 2nd to start the race in both his wins.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. - 6/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Here is another driver that has a lot of success at Daytona International Speedway, as he has notched two wins and six top 5 finishes. Earnhardt Jr. sits in 3rd place in the point standings with only 1 win this season, and its mainly because this guy is one of the more consistent drivers you will find.

Jamie McMurrray - 40/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Its hard to explain what happened last weekend for McMurray to grab his first ever win at Daytona, as this guy has finished 25th or worse in 8 of his 11 races here. But the 3 races that he has done well in, he has been in the top 10, including a 2nd place finish back in 2005. Its hard to say what to expect this weekend, but its pretty safe to say if he gets it going he will likely be right at the front of the pack.
