College Football Bowl Predictions: Week 15
Written December 2, 2008 by Jack Jones
After week 14 in the college football season, I’m projecting that the FedEx BCS National Championship Game will be between Florida and Oklahoma. The winner of the SEC Championship will no doubt be in. Right now the Gators are 10 point favorites over Alabama in that game. If Oklahoma wins against Missouri in the Big 12 Championship as 16 point favorites, they’ll be in as well. That is the most likely scenario, though we could end up with a Alabama/Texas match up if both Florida and Oklahoma lost this week, as unlikely as that may sound.
Right now it looks like Ohio State will face Texas in the Fiesta Bowl. Of course, if Oklahoma loses and Texas ends up in the BCS Championship, we would likely see Oklahoma in the Fiesta, but Ohio State being the highest ranked BCS Big 10 team available, is almost certain to get the nod.
The Sugar Bowl will feature the best team out of the SEC that’s not in the BCS Championship, which we project as Alabama. The other team selected will most likely be Utah, the highest BCS rated undefeated team in the nation, though it’s possible the Sugar Bowl selection committee would take Big East Champion Cincinnati.
The ACC Champ is locked into the Orange Bowl and I’m projecting Boston College to beat Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship game this weekend. Then, depending on who the Sugar Bowl selects, the odd team out will end up in the Orange Bowl, which we think will be Cincinnati. So my Orange Bowl projection is a Boston College versus Cincinnati showdown.
The last of the BCS Bowls, the Rose Bowl, is pretty much decided as we speak. Big 10 champ, Penn State is locked in, and USC just needs to beat UCLA (as 30 point favorites, no less) this week to shore up their spot as Pac-10 champ in the Rose Bowl. Not much mystery here. Expect to see USC face Penn State. USC is favored by 30 over UCLA Saturday.
