2008 Dallas Cowboys
Written July 30, 2008 by Jason Lowry
With the upcoming football season right around the corner, Jason Lowry is ready to bring you his 2008 Dallas Cowboys season predictions. The Cowboys put together a solid season going 13-3 and took home first place in the NFC East, but that all went to waste when the Cowboys failed to win a playoff game again, as the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants beat up on the Cowboys in the 2nd round. This year the Cowboys seem to have only gotten better with the additions of middle linebacker Zach Thomas, and corner Adam “Pacman” Jones. The Cowboys really didn’t lost anyone they wanted to keep, so lets take a look at just what the Cowboys will be sending to the field in 2008.
Offense:
The offense is loaded with talent at pretty much every position, but its hard to explain what happened to this unit in the post season. Quarterback Tony Romo is the leader of this unit, and its on his shoulders to make sure this team doesn’t fall short again this season. Look for big years from wide receiver Terrell Owens and tight end Jason Witten, as the team did way with Terry Glen. That should mean you can expect an even better year from No. 2 receiver Patrick Crayton as well. The Cowboys parted way with Julius Jones, and brought in rookie Felix Jones from Arkansas to take some of the load off starter Marion Barber. The offense line is pretty solid as well, as it returns 3 Pro Bowlers in center Andre Gurode, tackle Flozell Adams, and guard Leonard Davis. Overall this unit should be a force, and they should put plenty of points up for a very solid defense.

Defense:
The defense just like the offense, has all kinds of talent, and none may be better than outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware who had 14 sacks a year ago. WIth Thomas joining the mix at linebacker with guys like Greg Ellis and Bradie James, along with Ware, this 4 some should cause plenty of chaos this season. With such a great bunch at the linebacker spots, it makes it easier to look past an average defensive line. This team is just loaded with talent in the secondary, and it will get even better if and when Pacman Jones is reinstated. The team also added first round draft choice Mike Jenkins to the mix at corner, that already has Terence Newman and Anthony Henry. With all the talent in the secondary it should allow to keep safety Roy Williams off the field in almost every passing situation, where he struggles to get the job done. This should be a very solid unit, and will have no trouble shutting down teams when needed.

Special Teams:
Want another reason to like the Cowboys this season? Just take a look at what they got on special teams, not only do they have a Pro Bowl punter in Mat McBriar, they have another Pro Bowler in kicker Nick Folk. It doesn’t stop there as rookies Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins were both great returns in college, and there is no question about Pacman’s skill in the return game.

Prediction: 1st in NFC East
It’s hard to argue with a team that could put over 15 guys in the Pro Bowl this season, and though they play in one of the toughest division in all of football, we still think they take care of things in the regular season with ease again this season. The Cowboys are also one of our favorites to not only get out of the NFC East, but also to get out of the NFC.
