2008 Denver Broncos
Written August 9, 2008 by Jason Lowry
If you are ready for another NFL season to get underway, you’re not alone, and helping things out is Jason Lowry, as he brings you his 2008 Denver Broncos season predictions. The Broncos were one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL last season, as they finished up the season just 7-9, when many thought they were going to give San Diego a run for their money in the AFC West. The Broncos will have to start off the season without their star receiver brandon Marshall, as he has been suspended for the first 3 games. The Broncos have done many things to make sure 2008 is a success, and to get a good idea at what all they did, lets take a closer look at who they will be sending out on the field.
Offense:
This could be the season that Jay Cutler really comes out and shows everyone just why the Broncos are so high on this guy. Cutler not only gets the job done on the field, but is quickly becoming a leader in the clubhouse for this team. The Broncos seem to be able to plug just about any one in at running back, and it looks like Selvin Young is going to get first crack this season. The receiver group could really struggle without Marshall on the field, but they are hoping the additions of Keary Colbert and Darrell Jackson in the off-season will pay off. The Broncos really needed help at left tackle, and got just that when they landed Ryan Clady in the first round of the draft. Still this unit as a whole needs to improve or it could be another long season.

Defense:
The Broncos really had troubles stopping the run last season, and it must change that around if they want to get back over .500 and in the playoffs in 2008. The Broncos have solid hopes that Dewayne Robertson can come in and get the job done in the middle. At end the team is really high on their young talented duo of Elvis Dumervil and Marcus Thomas. At linebacker the Broncos look like they could be ready for a much better season as they brought in Boss Bailey and Niko Koutouvides to start, and allow D.J. Williams to move back to the outside where he looks much more comfortable. The secondary remains one of the best, as they have a great duo at the corner spots in Dre’ Bly and Champ Bailey. John Lynch remains at safety with the much younger Hamza Abdullah. Overall this unit should improve nicely against the run and overall.

Special Teams:
While the return game should be set with the addition of rookie receiver Eddie Royal, the kicking and punting game doesn’t look so bright. It will be tough for Bronco fans to not see Jason Elam kicking, as he is now a Falcon. The kicking game is likely to see Matt Prater get first crack, while the team tries to count on Sam Paulescu at punter.

Prediction: 2nd in AFC West
Though it’s really not saying much to finish 2nd in the West, as both the Chiefs and Raiders look to be down again this season, we still think that this Broncos teams is going to make a solid push for the playoffs this season. We are thinking 9 wins sounds just about right for this team.
