2008 Deutsche Bank Championship
Written August 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry
With only 3 more tournaments left to determine who is the winner of the PGA Tours 2nd annual playoff system, Vijay Singh took the early lead after beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff at the Barclays. This week the playoffs head to Boston, for the 2008 Deutsche Bank Championship. Last year Phil Mickelson was able to hold off Tiger Woods for the win this weekend, and if Mickelson wants to win this playoff race, a win could really go a long way in that happening. With so many players still in contention its still anyones game. To help you get going on the tournament this weekend, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to bring you his 1-2-3 predictions for the Deutsche Bank Championship.
1. Phil Mickelson +800 odds at BetUS.com
We think its time Mickelson made his mark on the playoff race this season, and we can’t think of a better place for him to do it than TPC of Boston, where he came out and played well last season. Mickelson showed some signs of getting things figured out with his final round of 68 at the Barclays. Mickelson needs to get it going with Woods not in the field, and prove to everyone that he is the 2nd best player in the world, if he fails to perform again this weekend, and Singh does well he might find himself to far behind. We think Mickelson comes out and really gets it going, and come Sunday he has this thing pretty well secured.
2. Adam Scott +3300 odds at BetUS.com
Its hard to figure out what happened to Scott on Friday as he shot an 82 just one day after shooting a very nice 68. That one bad round cost him many valuable points, as he failed to make the cut. Scott should have some added confidence this weekend, as he has done well here before, winning the first tournament here back in 2003. We think Scott gets it going this weekend, and give Mickelson all he can handle.
3. Vijay Singh +1200 odds at BetUS.com
Wow, Singh really came out last weekend and played some of the best golf we have seen him play this season. If he continues to strike the ball as well as he did last weekend, and the putter continues to stay on a roll, there is no question this guy can come back and perform well again this weekend. If you want our opinion we think he keeps it rolling, but not quite enough to take home the victory.
