2008 Dodge 400
February 27, 2008
Racing fans get strapped in as NASCAR is heading to the great city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sunday March 02, 2008 the Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the site of the 10th annual Dodge 400. The drivers should be happy to get out of the soggy conditions of California where the Auto Club 500 had to be postponed to a Monday finish. Carl Edwards took home the victory over Hendrick’s teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. Jimmie Johnson is the man to beat this week, as he is the three time defending champion of the Dodge 400. The last person to win before Johnson was Matt Kenseth who won the event back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. Last year the Las Vegas Motor Speedway made some adjustments to the track making it a little faster, but the result was still the same with Johnson beating out Gordon and this year’s Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin. Here is our prediction of 1-2-3 finish this week.
1. Jimmie Johnson – 9-2 at Sportsbook.com
Johnson is the favorite this week and with good reason as he is a constant threat to win each and every week. This would be a good race for Johnson to get his first taste of victory lane in 2008. Johnson was so close to taking home the Auto Club 500 before letting Edwards take home the checkered flag. You have to like Johnson to fair well again this week as he has dominated this track over the last 3 years. If he is able to win this week he will become the 4th driver to ever win an event 4 straight times.
2. Matt Kenseth – 10-1 at Sportsbook.com
Before Johnson stole the show at the Vegas Speedway Kenseth was the man to beat. Kenseth is one of three drivers to average a top ten finish at this event. Since last winning in 2004, he finished 8th in 2005, 2nd in 2006, and 4th in 2007. Kenseth struggled to start the year at the Daytona 500, but picked it up last week finishing 5th at the Auto Club 500. If Johnson has any problems this week Kenseth could return to victory lane in Las Vegas.
3. Kyle Busch – 10-1 at Sportsbook.com
To finish up the top three we are going with Kyle Busch, who looked great at the Daytona 500 before winding up in 4th. Busch looked as though he was going to win the race as led much of the race, but was unable to hold on in the end. Last week Busch went to the Auto Club 500 and finished 4th yet again making it two 4th place finishes in a row to start the year. Busch has also had a lot of success at the Dodge 400 over the last few years as he has finished in the top ten the last three years. His best finish coming in 2005 when he was the runner-up to Johnson. So with Busch’s great start to the 2008 season and his recent success at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway we like him to keep on rolling with another big finish this week.
