2008 Doral World Golf Championship - CA Championship

golf

The PGA is gearing up for its 4th and final stop on the early Florida swing at Doral for the World Golf Championship-CA Championship. This is the 2nd tournament of the World Golf Championship with Tiger Woods winning the first at the Accenture Match Play Championship. Last week golf fans got almost everything they could ask for with the Arnold Palmer Invitational coming down to the wire with one of the best finishes you will see all year. While its no surprise that Tiger won the tournament, it was the bunch of golfers that were battling along side him all weekend long. Bart Bryant put on a show and did everything he could, but fell one shot short after Tiger nailed a 24ft putt on 18 to win by one.  Doral Golf Resort in Miami allows for a lot of drivers, but requires amazing iron precision to stay out of trouble. Doral is most notable for #18, which has gained the name as the “Blue Monster.” It has water all down left side and bunkers down the right. This is where the good iron play comes in hand as you have a very tight shot at the green with the water running right up beside it on the left side. Lets take a look at a favorite, a middle of the pack, and a long shot that we think will be playing late on Sunday.

Favorite: Tiger Woods 2-3 odds at Sportsbook.com

You would have to be crazy not to go with the best golfer in the world right now. He looked like he was on his way to finally losing last week, but next thing you know he erases a 7-shot deficit and is in the final round on Sunday. Tiger has simply dominated the World Golf Championship tournaments and Doral has seen a lot of Tiger dominance over the years. Tiger has won 6 of the 8 World Championship’s since it started, and he is three time defending champ here. So if you want take someone else, but you know its going to some amazing shooting by someone to dethrone the man.

Middle of the Pack: Ernie Els 20-1 odds at Sportsbook.com

Ernie Els is back after taking a much needed week of to rest both the mind and body, and will get his first crack at both Tiger and Phil Mickelson. Els has already notched a win this year at the Honda Classic, and he is the last guy to take home the trophy at Doral not named Tiger Woods. What more could we ask for than a Tiger vs. Ernie battle coming down to the wire on Sunday? This should be a good tune up for golf fans before the Masters gets underway here in a few weeks.

Long Shot: Sergio Garcia 40-1 odds at Sportsbook.com

Sergio played pretty well last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational before falling towards the back of the pack on Sunday. Sergio’s game will fit well with Doral as he is one of the games best off the tee as he is currently 5th overall in total driving. Where Sergio’s game tends to struggle is once he gets to the green as putting has been his nemesis so far in 2008. The reason we like Garcia is that he has finished in the top 10 six times in the last 10 years. So if Garcia can get his putter going, he could easily make his first big move of the season at Doral.
