This weekend the PGA European Tour gets it annual visit from Tiger Woods when he heads to the Dubai Desert Classic. Woods is coming off a very impressive win at the Buick Open, where he won by a margin of eight strokes. Why the PGA tour will lose some of its fan base without Woods in action, the fans will poor in to watch Woods at the Dubai. Woods who has faired well in at the Dubai, won it in 2006, and tied for third last year. The field will also see Ernie Els and last year’s winner Henrick Stenson. While it might be obvious on whom to pick to take home the trophy, we will give you who we think has a chance to over take him, and a long shot that could surprise everyone this weekend.

Woods 1/1

The favorite is no question Tiger Woods. He looks like he has everything clicking and can’t be beat. Woods was so impressive last week that it seemed he got such a big lead that he lost focus during the final holes. Tiger will be the first to tell you that he has much to improve on, but if the man continues to improve he could set records that may never be reached. While it has been said that Tiger is making the trip to also check on the golf course he is designing, it shouldn’t mess with his game. So it’s not a matter if Tiger wins, but by how many he wins by.

Stenson 10/1

Second is not so bad when Tiger is in the field, but the golfer we like is Stenson. The tournament has never seen a player win back-to-back, but Stenson might be able to pull it off. Now its going to take some lights out shooting all weekend for Stenson to pull this off, but he showed last year that he is capable of withstanding the pressure of Woods lurking close behind. Stenson is also going to need some help with Tiger’s game. While Tiger looked amazing putting at the Buick Open, he has struggled at Dubai and could close the gap between him and the rest of the field. Some might wonder why we didn’t take Ernie Els here, but we just don’t think he is going to be at his best. This will be his first tournament this year and will most likely have to take some time to work out a few kinks in his game.

Jimenez 50/1

Our long shot this week is Miguel Angel Jimenez. Jimenez has been very impressive at the Dubai and could be poised to make a big run this weekend. He tied for second in 2005, tied for fourth in 2006, and tied for tenth in 2007. Jimenez’s ability to throw a low score on Sunday has to give him an outside shot. Jimenez does his best work on the European tour where he has won 14 times. Jimenez’s last win came at the Omega Hong Kong Open. While the tournament was played in 2007, it counted as a win on the 2008 European Tour season.
