2008 EDS Byron Nelson Predictions & Odds
The PGA TOUR is now a week removed from the Masters Championship, and is headed to Irving, Texas for the 2008 EDS Byron Nelson Championship. The tournament is set to get underway on April 24th and conclude on April 27th. With golf’s biggest name in Tiger Woods taking some unexpected time off two fix an injury to his knee, someone needs to step up and keep the people watching this great game. Its unclear if Masters Champion Trevor Immelman is the next big thing, or just had a really good weekend at the right time. A lot could be told if he able to come out this week at the Byron Nelson Championship and have another big time performance. He will have his hands full, as there are plenty of guys out there with the talent to win this weekend. Last year Scott Verplank was able to take home the trophy and a solid paycheck, as the winner this week will get nearly $1,152,000 and some valuable FedEx Cup points. Here is a look at 3 golfers we feel will be in contention come the final round on Sunday.
Favorite: Luke Donald 15-1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Luke Donald has been pretty solid all season long. He has yet to win on tour this year but has 2nd place finish at the Honda Classic and a 3rd place finish at the Northern Trust Open. Donald is coming off a very disappointing showing at the Masters where he failed to even make the cut. The good thing is the Masters is done and over with and Donald has a good history here at the Byron Nelson Championship. He is coming off a 2nd place finish here in 2007. Donald is one of the best putters on tour and should be able to have a good showing this weekend in Texas
Middle of the Pack: Sean O’Hair 25-1 odds at Sportsbook.com
O’Hair has had a great start to the 2008 season with a win at the PODS Championship, and a 3rd place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. O’Hair also performed well at the Masters, where he finished tied for 14th. O’Hair is a up and down player that can have it clicking one week, and have it all go away the next. O’Hair was pretty solid at this tournament last year as he shot three rounds in the 60’s but had a bad round on Saturday to push him out of contention. Look for O’Hair to continue to make strides and put together four solid rounds this weekend.
Long Shot: Ken Duke 80-1 odds at Sportsbook.com
This is by far one of the biggest long shots we have taken going into a tournament, but we have a good feeling that Duke is due for a big weekend, and it just might come here in Texas. Duke will need to find ways to make some birdies and hopefully be able to improve on the 7th place finish he had here a year ago.
