2008 Houston Texans
Written August 7, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Ready for another season of NFL action to get underway? So are we, and thats why Jason Lowry is bringing you his 2008 Houston Texans season predictions. Last year the Texans put together one of their best going 8-8, but it didn’t get them very far in the AFC South, as they wound up finishing in last place thanks to the Colts, Jaguars, and Titans. The Texans have gained some key players in the offseason including guys like corner Jacques Reeves, center Chris Myers, and backup running back Chris Brown. The team also lost some key players from a year ago, like linebacker Danny Clark. To see just what the Texans will look like this season, lets take a closer look at what they will be sending to the field this season.
Offense:
This team might of had a even better season had starter Matt Schaub been able to stay healthy, as he missed 5 starts and left early in other numerous starts. When Schaub is healthy it makes for a great combo with star receiver Andre Johnson, who also has had some struggles staying healthy. The running game hopes to see a healthy Ahman Green, as he wound up getting hurt in the first game of the season. The additions of Brown in the off-season and rookie Steve Slaton the running game should have more depth in 2008. The offensive line is not the strongest part of this team, as they really struggled to stop the run last season. the addition of Myers at Center should improve that spot, but they need more out of the others guys if they want to improve on their win total from 2007.

Defense:
The defense can really use some improvement on the defensive line and they hope that the youngster Amobi Okoye can start to really mature at the tackle spot. Defensive end Mario Williams started to show why the Texans took him No. 1 back in 2006, as he produced 14 sacks in his 2nd season in the league. The linebacker group that the Texans will put out, is pretty solid and DeMeco Ryans has really emerged as the leader of this unit. Morion Greenwood and Zac Diles both have played solid at the other starting spots. The secondary looks like it will be a little weak coming into the season, it looks like Fred Bennett and Jacques Reeves will handle the starting corner spots, while C.C. Brown and Will Demps hold down the safety spots. Overall this unit really overachieved last season, and will be counting on the youngsters to do so again.

Special Teams:
This unit could really help carry this team in games, as they are set at both the kicker spot with Kris Brown and punter Matt Turk. On the other side of things they have some really good returners as well, as kick return specialist Andre Davis had 3 returns for touchdowns last season, and they are high on punt returner Jacoby Jones to have some big plays this season.

Prediction: 4th in the AFC South
There are a lot of teams that are much worse than this Texans team, and they just have some bad luck playing in the division they do. When you got 6 games against 3 of the best teams in the AFC, its hard to put together a big season. The Texans were just 1-5 against the 3 powerhouses in the South, and still managed to win 8 games. We think another 8 win season sounds about right.
