2008 Jacksonville Jaguars
Written August 7, 2008 by Jason Lowry
To help you get going on the fast approaching NFL season, Jason Lowry is ready to bring you his 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars season predictions. The Jaguars are coming off a very impressive season going 11-5 good enough for 2nd place in the AFC South behind the Colts. The Jaguars finished the season really strong going 7-1 in the final 3 games, and its only loss in that stretch was a 3-point loss at the Colts. This year the Jags have brought in Joey Porter to help out the receiving game, and will have to deal with the loss of Marcus Stroud on the defensive line. To see just what the Jags will look like this season, lets take a closer look at who they will be sending out on the field.
Offense:
The Jaguars seemed to have found the answer at quarterback for not only now but for the future as they locked up David Garrard to a multi-year deal to continue to lead this team. There is a lot to like about Garrard, and we might not have seen near the best of him. Making things a little easier on him is the running back duo of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, who combined for nearly 2,000 yards and racked up 14 touchdowns. The addition of Porter to the passing game, should help give Garrard the deep threat, and hope that Dennis Northcutt and Reggie Williams can emerge in the No. 2 spot. It looks like Marcedes Lewis will become the starting tight end after Kyle Brady hit the roads. The offensive line doesn’t have any big names that pop out at you, but they work well together, and someone is creating those holes for Drew and Taylor. We think this unit comes through again in 2008, and helps this team in another playoff push.

Defense:
The defensive line could really have some problems if they can’t find the answer for the hole left from Marcus Stroud, as it looks now Rob Meier will get first shot at being John Henderson’s partner at tackle. On the ends they will be counting on the veteran Paul Spicer on one end while they hope that rookie Derrick Harvey can cause some chaos this season. The linebacking positions look solid as long as Mike Peterson is able to come back and be the man in the middle for this defense. It looks like Daryl Smith and Clint Ingram will be the go to guys on the outside, and should play much better with Peterson in the mix. The secondary could be looking a little better in 2008 if Rashean Mathis can regain his form that landed him in the Pro Bowl, also with the addition of veteran corner Drayton Florence it could allow the team to move Brian Williams into one of the safety spots.

Special Teams:
The team needs Josh Scobee to stay healthy for the full season, as he rarely misses, and the team still has high hopes for 2nd year punter Adam Podlesh, as he struggled in his rookie year. The team is pretty set in the return game as Jones-Drew handles the kicks, while Northcutt snags the punts.

Prediction: 3rd in the AFC South
Some might question putting the Jags as low as 3rd in any division, but they just so happen to play in one of the toughest division in football. We could easily see this team pulling off a 10-6 record and getting left out of the playoffs like the Browns did a year ago. Overall this is a solid football team, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they proved us wrong with a big season in 2008.
