2008 John Deere Classic Predictions
Written July 7, 2008 by Jason Lowry
To get the week going off as usual Jason Lowry is ready to make his predictions on the upcoming PGA Tour event, and this week its all about the 2008 John Deere Classic that gets underway this weekend at TPC at Deere Run. The last guy to win this event is Johnathan Byrd last year, and before that it was John Senden. So as you can see it really doesn’t matter what big names you have in the field, there is a good chance you might see a guy you haven’t really heard anything about take home the trophy. The John Deere Classic first got underway back in 1971, and has been a main stay on the PGA Tour ever since. With plenty of talent ready to tee it up this weekend here is the 3 golfers on the board that we feel have a good shot at winning the tournament this weekend.
Favorite: Kenny Perry – 7/1 odds at Bodoglife.com
Perry has been red hot as of late winning 2 out of the 4 events he has played in. Perry also mixed in a tie for 6th place at the Travelers Championship. Perry is currently 4th on the money list, and 3rd in the FedEx Cup points. Perry seems to be doing it all as of late, as he is 17th in total driving, 10th in greens in regulation, and a respectable 50th in putting average. Perry is our man to walk away with this thing come Sunday.
Middle of the Pack: Bubba Watson – 28/1 odds at Bodoglife.com
While Watson isn’t a guy you would normally pick to win an event, we have a good feeling that he can put together a good enough finish for just maybe his first win of the season. Watson has been playing better as of late as well, as he is coming off a tie for 2nd at the Buick Open and a tie for 6th at the Travelers Championship in his last two events. Watson can definitely hit the long ball, but he is going to rely more on his irons and putting to take home the win this weekend. If Bubba gets his putter going he is one of the best golfers out there.
Long Shot: Nick Watney – 40/1 odds at Bodoglife.com
Watney isn’t a guy many people know that much about, and the fact that he is only 27 means he still could be primed for a break out season. While it doesn’t look like it will be this year, he has the talent to win and he might get the 2nd win of his career this weekend, if he can keep the driver in the fairway, and put enough putts in the hole, he has a legit shot at pulling the big upset this weekend.
