2008 Kentucky Derby Odds
So with the Kentucky Derby sneaking up on us in a little over a week, we thought it would be a good idea to bring you the odds for this big time racing event that is set to get underway on May 3rd. The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for 3-year-old thoroughbred horses that is raced each year at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. With so many people tuned into the big event that many call the “The most exciting two-minutes in sports” there is sure to be plenty of action on this event, as millions of fans are expected to be tuned into the event. There isn’t anything that makes an event like this better than having a little action on which horse you think is going to win the race.With the odds already out, and without knowing much about horse racing you might be quick to jump on the favorites to win the race, but the key is finding the sleeper that has a good chance to win, and has a good value to go along with your bet. This year the field seems more wide open than usual, as there are so many horses that have a chance to win. The other thing that has people rethinking their instincts is that so many of these horses have slipped up at some point along the way. We have spent a good amount of time trying to pick a winner ourselves, and we have already changed our minds 3 times since the odds first came out. So lets take a look at this year’s odds for the Kentucky Derby and will even through in some of our value picks that we feel have a good shot at coming through in the first big race of the season.

So you can see that the 3 big horses that the oddsmakers are giving the best chance of entering the victory circle are Big Brown (3/1), Colonel John (6/1), and Pyro (8/1). These are the only three horses with odds better than 10/1, so there has to be some sleepers out there, because we are not buying that this is a 3 horse race. Plus if you are betting on this race the worse the odds for the horse to win, the more money in your pocket. Here are a few horses that we think will be a serious threat to the favorites. Court Vision (20/1), Tale Of Ekati (20/1), and Smooth Air (25/1). This is based on the horse’s runs leading up to the Kentucky Derby. Be sure and check on how these horses do in the week leading up to the race and how their practice runs go. With horses the littlest things can cause big changes in how they run the race, so it will all be up for grabs out of the gates.
