2008 Kobalt Tools 500
March 5, 2008
NASCAR is heading to the southeast for the Kobalt Tools 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. After leaving a fast and dangerous track in Las Vegas, racers won’t catch a break this week, as Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of the fastest tracks on the NEXTEL Cup Series. The race is scheduled to take place Sunday March 9, 2008. Last year Jimmie Johnson was able to take home the checkered flag here and just like last week will be looking to repeat. While Johnson wasn’t able to take home the victory at Dodge 400, Carl Edwards was able to notch his second victory in a row. We are now entering the 4th week and NASCAR is yet to see a Hendricks racer win this season. With three of the top racers in the game it’s only a matter of time till one of these guys enter victory lane. With a $4,957,097 purse this weekend it’s sure to be a battle. Lets take a look at a couple racers that we think will have a good chance of winning this week at the Kobalt 500.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. 8-1 at Sportsbook.com
Dale Earnhardt has been pretty impressive this year with a top 10 finish at the Daytona 500 and a 2nd place finish last week at the Dodge 400. While it’s hard to pick him over teammates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt looked the best last week. With a very similar track this week we are going to predict Earnhardt takes home the first victory for Hendrick Motorsports. We also like Earnhardt as he has had some success at this track. He finished first in this even back in 2004 and finished 3rd in 2006. While he wasn’t able to finish in the top 10 last year, his overall success at the track has him our pick this week, that and we are tired of picking Johnson and him letting us down.
Carl Edwards 5-1 at Sportsbook.com
We are going to stick with the hot driver this week and see if Edwards is able to bring his streak to 3 in a row with a victory at the Kobalt Tools 500. After a disappointing run at the Daytona 500 Edwards has looked great ever since. He took home 1st at the Auto Club 500 and again last week at the Dodge 400. Edwards is another guy that has had a lot of success so far at this track. In 2005 he was able to take home the checked flag here, and has finished in the top 10 the last 2 years in a row. To take a look at just how impressive Edwards has been so far his averaging starting position last year was 16.8 and his average finish 12.9. This year he has an average starting position of 7.3 and a 7 place average in finishing the race. While it might be hard for Edwards to win his third we expect another solid finish from him again this week.
So head over to Sportsbook.com and get your bets in on these two guys to win at the Kobalt 500. Sportsbook.com is quick and easy and will have you ready in no time. As always feel free to leave any comments on the race in the comment box.
