2008 LifeLock 400
Written June 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is heading to Michigan this weekend and that means Jason Lowry is set to make his 2008 LifeLock 400 predictions. On Sunday June 15th drivers will be getting ready to tackle Michigan International Speedway for the first of two races held there this season. The first is 400 miles of speed that will take the drivers 200 laps to finish. The race started back in 1969 with Cale Yarborough and his Mercury car taking home the first checkered flag. Mercury cars continued to dominate early winning 7 of the first 8, but it has been all Ford as of late as they have won 15 of the last 24 races here at Michigan. Last year it was Carl Edwards and his Ford car that took home the 2007 trophy, and will not only be looking to repeat but earn his 4th victory of the 2008 season. Last week NASCAR witnessed yet another Kasey Kahne victory, as he has won 3 out of the last 4 races. Before this Kahne was no where near the point lead, but with a little help from Kyle Busch and his last place finish last weekend at Pocono moved Kahne all the way into 9th place in the point standings. Now its time to make our 2-driver predictions for LifeLock 400.
#16 Greg Biffle - 8/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Driving a Ford in this race just seems to make life a lot easier, and working for a solid team such as Roush Racing doesn’t hurt. While Biffle has yet to find the winners circle this season, he has put together a pretty solid season to where if he can grab a win or two he should be right in the mix of things at the end of the season. As it stands now he is 7th in the point standings, but is still 303 points behind the leader Kyle Busch. Biffle does have five top 5 finishes this season including a 2nd place finish at the Coca-Cola 600 and a 3rd place finish at the Best Buy 400. One other reason to like Biffle this week is he has won at Michigan before, actually he did so twice, once in 2004 and again in 2005. Biffle is a solid pick this weekend to finally get that first win of the season.
#17 Matt Kenseth - 10/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
While many of you might wonder why we would go with Kenseth on this one, but this guy has really turned it up as of late. After really struggling to start the season, he has put together four straight finishes in the top 10 and none have been worse than 7th. He is only 2 weeks off his best finish of the year where he came in 4th at the Best Buy 400. Not only is he getting hot, he has really raced well at Michigan International Speedway, where he has won twice in his career and has 11 top 10 finishes. If this guy can avoid any accidents this weekend we really feel that he will be in contention when the final laps coming rolling in. Plus this guy is driving a Ford, and the way things have been going here it might mean more than you would think. If you are looking for a guy with some solid odds this weekend than take Kenseth to surprise at the LifeLock 400.
