2008 MVP Predictions
Written August 22, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Finally, the wait is nearly over as football season is right around the corner, and to get going on the upcoming NFL season, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to bring you his 2008 NFL MVP Predictions. The award is usually given to the best player on one of the best teams, and last year was no exception, as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took home the hardware. The award has been dominated by running backs and wide receivers, as the only other positions to win the award was wide receiver (Jerry Rice) and linebacker (Lawrence Taylor). With so many players capable of winning the award we are going to narrow it down to the 5 guys we feel have the best shot in 2008.
1. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego Chargers
Tomlinson is entering his 8th season in the league, and though running backs have little life in the NFL, this guy continues to put up big time numbers. After setting the NFL record for touchdowns in a season with 31 in 2006, Tomlinson put up just 18 a year ago. Though he still put up just as good of numbers as almost any other back, his previous play has his standards much higher. After having to sit out in the AFC Championship game against the Patriots, we feel a new fire was ignited, and teams better fear what they are about to get from this guy this season. We are expecting another 25+ touchdown season and possibly his 2nd MVP in the last 3 years.

2. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
What a season Brady and the Patriots had a year ago, Brady set the NFL single season touchdown record by throwing 50 passes in the end zone, and the Patriots became the first team to ever finish the regular season at 16-0. With Moss and Welker back again in 2008, there is no reason to think that this combination won’t have another big season. We do feel that some of the credit should go to Moss, as Brady was never a 50 touchdown QB till he became a Patriot. In a quarterback driven league you have to consider Brady a big threat to win back-to-back MVPs.

3. Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Manning and the Colts were hurt by injuries last season, and were unable to defend their Super Bowl trophy. This year the Colts look like they will be healthy once again, and primed for another big season. Manning rarely misses a game, and his ability to pick apart defenses is second to none. Don’t be surprised to see Manning put a big year and lead the Colts to another great season.

4. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
What a rookie season Peterson had last year, and if this guy stays healthy for the whole season, there is no question he could put up some huge numbers. What really helps out the single game rushing record holder is that the Vikings could be a real force in the NFC North now that Farve is no longer a Packer. Plus Peterson will get plenty of chances to find the endzone, as the Vikings passing game isn’t the best. We think Peterson is the sleeper on this list, as we think this guy has what it takes to set the single season rushing record before its all said and done.

5. Brett Farve, QB, New York Jets
There is going to be so much hype surrounding this guy in his first season as a Jet, and if he can lead this team into the playoffs and one of the best records in the AFC, there is no question Favre will get all the recognition. If Brady hadn’t had the season of a lifetime, Favre could have easily took home his 3rd MVP last year, as he led the Packers to an amazing season. We see no reason to doubt this guy, as all this guy seems to do is prove everyone wrong.
