2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race Predictions & Odds
May 13, 2008
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series isn’t going to be traveling to far this week, as they leave Richmond and head to Charlotte for a two-week stop at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. This week 24 drivers will be competing in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race this Saturday night. This event allows all winners from last year and this year to earn automatic spots in the race. There will be a qualifying race (NASCAR Sprint Showdown) that allows some of the lesser drivers to race their way into the big event, and on top of that the fans get to vote one other driver into the race. What makes this race so exciting is the huge $3.3 million purse that is paid out, with over $1 million going to the winner of the race. These kinds of numbers mean drivers will be putting all friendships aside and will be doing whatever it takes to win. Last week NASCAR’s villain Kyle Busch was able to take home yet another win on the season and increase his point lead over the rest of the field. It will be interesting to see how the Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Busch sage plays out, as both drivers don’t seem to like each other to much and both want to win at all costs this week. So here is a look at two drivers we think will be in the mix of it at the end of the race and able to take home the big cash prize this weekend.

#99 Carl Edwards 6/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Edwards along with Busch both have 3 wins on the year, but Edwards has been a little less inconsistent and that’s why he sits in 7th in the point standings. It’s always good to take a look back at some of the races that are run on similar type tracks. This year it would be good to check out the races at Las Vegas, Atlanta and Texas. Edwards was able to grab two of his victories on these three tracks, as he won the race at Las Vegas and Texas. While Edwards hasn’t won at Lowe’s Motor Speedway he has had numerous good finishes, and we think that this will be the year he breaks through and enters victory lane.
#48 Jimmie Johnson 7/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
Johnson is a guy that really seems to get it going on this track, as he has 5 wins and 3 other top 3 finishes. Johnson seemed to have lost his edge on these types of tracks as he struggled here at Charlotte last year and the races at Las Vegas and Atlanta this year, but he is coming off a 2nd place finish at Texas Motor Speedway. We think that he is going to ride that into a great performance this week. Also we should mention that we like Kyle Busch in this race, but we feel he is going to be a little to aggressive and end up getting in a wreck as he has done here before. Johnson is a great play this weekend and could easily get back to his winning ways.
