2008 NCAA Tournament Predictions - East Region
The East Region just might be the toughest bracket out of them all, with tough teams spread throughout the bracket. So when you sit down to fill out you bracket you might want to take a quick look at our picks before North Carolina has to be asking how it can be the best #1 seed and have the toughest road to the Final Four. The one factor that will play to the Tar Heels favor is that they will pretty much have home games all the way to the Final Four, as they are set to play the first two in Raleigh, NC and the following two in Charlotte, NC. Tennessee is the #2 seed and might just be the best one out there as they spent some time as the #1 team in the country. Were going to split the brackets in half and break it down with who we think will win and then give you our team to make it to San Antonio, TX for the Final Four.
Top Half
We like North Carolina no matter who they play after the play-in game, and in a tough 2nd round match up against Indiana who will ride Eric Gordon’s shooting to a first round victory over Arkansas. We aren’t expecting any upsets in the first round match ups for Notre Dame and Washington State, but we do like the minor upset of Notre Dame over Washington State in the 2nd round. North Carolina will roll past the Irish and are a lock to be in the Elite 8.
Bottom Half
Tennessee comes in as the #2 seed and will have no problem with their first round opponent, and while Butler could be a scary team to play in the 2nd round we like them to make it to the Sweet 16. Our first big upset of the bracket comes when #11 Saint Josephs takes down #6 seeded Oklahoma. Louisville will handle its business against Boise State and will take advantage of Saint Josephs in the 2nd. In one of the best 2 vs. 3 games of the tournament we like Tennessee to advance to a showdown with UNC for a shot at the Final Four.
Final 2
While many believe that this it’s a no doubter in riding North Carolina all the way to the championship game, we are going to take a pretty big upset in Tennessee to advance to the Final Four. We really like what the Vols bring to the table and are one of the few teams that can keep up with Carolina. This could be one of the best 1 vs. 2 match up in the whole tournament; it’s a shame that these two teams even got put in the same bracket. Tennessee will ride Sophomore stud Tyler Smith who might not get the attention he deserves, but is the main reason Tennessee is as good as it is. So take our advice and pick up some extra points in your office brackets by not going with the big favorite in UNC.
