2008 NCAA Tournament Predictions - Midwest Region
In our final bracket breakdown we are going to check the bracket from the Midwest. The Midwest Region will see two of its very own as the #1 seed Kansas is set to do battle in this region along with #3 Wisconsin. Georgetown landed the #2 seed and stay out east in Raleigh, NC before heading to Detroit, MI for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Overall this bracket isn’t very high on the caliber of teams we think can make it to the Final Four. Brackets such as the East and the South had at least 4 teams, while we only see three teams with a legit shot out of the Midwest. So if you are looking for some bracket help, here are our picks for each game in the Midwest Region.
Top Half
#1 Kansas might just be the best team that no body seems to be talking about they will have no problems at all taking down the likes of #16 Portland State and #8 UNLV who should take care of business against Kent St. in one of the better 8 vs. 9 games in the tournament. There won’t be any 5 vs. 12 upset happening in this bracket, as #5 Clemson will have no trouble against #12 Villanova. #4 Vanderbilt should have no trouble against #13Siena, but we see them struggling to Clemson in the second round. This sets up Kansas vs. Clemson for the shot to move to the Elite 8, and we are not picking any upsets here as Kansas will have no troubles getting past Clemson to move one step closer to the Final Four.
Bottom half
The bottom part of the Midwest Region will see #2 Georgetown taking care of business in the first and second rounds against #15 UMBC and #7 Gonzaga who will control #10 Davidson in the first round. In what might be one of the most exciting first round games we like #6 USC edging out #11 Kansas State. What makes that game so special is that there will be two of college’s best freshmen going at it O.J. Mayo and Michael Beasley. #3 Wisconsin will continue to roll after winning both the Big Ten regular and tournament titles with a win of #14 Cal State Fullerton. Here comes our big upset of the bracket with USC taking down Wisconsin, Tim Floyd will be able to coach USC through the slow play of Wisconsin, but the fun will stop there as they will fall to the Hoyas.
Top 2
In a classic 1 vs.2 two match up the Midwest will get to see two of colleges best with #1 Kansas squaring off against #2 Georgetown. This should be a fun an entertaining battle, as it will see two of the deepest teams in the tournament do battle. We are going with the Hoyas on this one, with the deciding factor being their overall defense led by C Roy Hibbert being too much inside. Also the Hoyas have been shooting the ball pretty well lately and have the ability to go lights out from the 3-point line, as they did against Villanova in the Big East Tournament when they hit 17 of them. The Hoyas are our pick to head out of the Midwest to San Antonio for the Final Four.
