2008 NCAA Tournament Predictions - South Region

Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The South Region of the NCAA Tournament isn’t far behind the East when it comes to toughest brackets to make your way to the Final Four. With teams from big time conferences lined up throughout the bracket it’s going to be a difficult task for any team to make it to San Antonio, TX for the Final Four. Memphis will come in as the #1 seed in bracket that has the likes of a surging Pittsburgh team, Marquette, Stanford, and a very tough Texas team as the #2 seed. Here is out breakdown of the South Region we will give you our winners of each round, along with our team to make it out and head to the Final Four.Top Half

Memphis might be the best #1 seed that nobody will be talking about, and few will have picked to make it to the Final Four, but we don’t see them having any problem when it comes to beating their two first round opponents in #16 Texas-Arlington and a tough Mississippi State team in round 2. #4 Pitt rolled through the Big East Tournament and won’t stop when it meets up with #13 Oral Roberts in the first round. In another intriguing 5 vs 12 match up we are going to give you an upset here with #12 Temple beating #5 Michigan State. Pitt should roll Past Temple setting up a match up with Memphis in the Sweet 16, which should see a strong Memphis team take care of business and move one step closer to the Final Four.

Bottom Half

#2 Texas should roll to the Sweet 16 with easy wins over both #15 Austin Peavy and # 10 Saint Mary’s who we see upsetting #7 Miami (FL) in the first round. We are on upset alert again as we see #11 Kentucky taking down #6 Marquette in the first round. We don’t see #3 Stanford having any troubles getting past both #14 Cornell and then Kentucky in Round 2. Here comes another upset as we see the Longhorns falling to the Cardinals in what should be a classic 2 vs. 3 match up right in the back yard of Texas, as the game is set to be played in Houston TX.

Top 2

This Elite 8 match up will see #1 Memphis vs. #3 Stanford, and will be a lot closer than many people might expect. While so many people seem to dog Memphis and there schedule, in our opinion they played one of the tougher non-conference schedules and did pretty well against teams that made it to the field of 65. We expect this one to come down to the wire as so many of Stanford’s games seem to do, but the trend won’t stop and just like they can’t finish off UCLA, their dance ends here in the hands of the Tigers. Just incase you didn’t know Memphis is for real and they are a legit team to win it all, so just cause everyone is predicting them to lose, its in your best interest to take the Tigers and slot them in San Antonio for the Final Four.
