2008 NFL Predictions

Written July 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Its that time of year where everyone starts to get a little football craving building up in them, and Jason Lowry is going to help you out with 2008 NFL Predictions. With 2007 being one of the most exciting and entertaining seasons I can remember, I mean you had the Patriots making every team look like they were a class below them, until they get upset by Eli Manning and the Giants in the Super Bowl. You had the emergence of Adrian Peterson, as he set the NFL single game rushing record in his first season, and who can forget Brett Farve looking and playing like the old Brett Farve. This year has teams like the Cowboys, who are loaded top to bottom with some of the best talent in the league, and can anyone in the AFC stop the Patriots or the Colts this season? Here is a look at how we see each division playing out in 2008.

AFC East
The way we see it is simply the Patriots have this division locked up before the season even starts, as long as Tom Brady is at quarterback this team is going to beat up on the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins. While the Bills were clearly second best in 2007, we see the Jets rising to the No. 2 spot this season. The Bills should remain in 3rd, and the Dolphins will once again finish at the bottom.

AFC North
The North wasn’t as easy to predict this year, as both the Steelers and the Browns have very talented football teams. Last year the two teams tied record wise, but the Steelers ended up winning the tie breaker, and were the team in the playoffs. This year we see the Browns coming back and taking over the North this season, with the Steelers close behind. We think things in Cincinnati get better this season, as long as Chad Johnson is on the field. Finally we got the Ravens improving this season, but we still got them finishing 4th in the North.

AFC South
Its pretty safe to say that Peyton Manning is going to have the Colts in the playoffs once again, but their conference is no cake walk, as both the Titans and Jaguars are very good football teams. We think the Colts will have enough to hold off the Titans, as we have them slipping past the Jaguars, and last but not least the Texans stay at the bottom in one of the toughest divisions in football

AFC West
This was one of the most disappointing seasons in recent years for the West, and it looks like it might go through at least 1 or 2 more before it returns back to a dominant division again. The Chargers remain the class of this division, and should have no problem winning this one. The Broncos have really let down the past two seasons, when everyone was so high on them, but we still got them finishing ahead of the Raiders and Chiefs. While both of these two teams at the bottom are young and full of talent, we give the edge to the Raiders in 2008, as they have more players ready to make an impact now instead of later.

NFC East
The East is simply the toughest division in football, slightly ahead of the AFC South. All 4 teams finished at .500 or better, and the team that finished second (Giants) went on to win the Super Bowl. Even though it looks like all 4 teams got better, you have to give the edge to the Cowboys, as they are stocked with Pro Bowl players all over the field. After the Cowboys is where it gets tough, but we give the edge to the Eagles, as they look to have a dominant defense this season. Next in line we are taking the Redskins as they continue to make strides, and sadly we are picking the Giants to finish last. Its not that we think they are a bad football team, but this team was 3-5 at home, and can’t expect to repeat their success on the road.

NFC North
While its hard to pick this division without knowing where or if Brett Farve will play this season. If he is back with the Packers then you have to put them at the top, but since there is no sure word that he will be in a Packer uniform, we are taking the young and talented Vikings to take over the North. Close behind we have the Packers, as Rodgers should be able to take over and do well. The Bears still haven’t brought in a quarterback, and thats simply reason enough to pick them 3rd in this division, and last we got the Lions bringing up the bottom after a terrible finish to the season in 2007.

NFC South
We think that the Saints jump back on top of this division, as they not only get Deuce back, but they add a solid weapon in Jeremy Shockey to the mix. We actually think this could wind up being the 2nd best team in the entire NFC behind the Cowboys. Next in line we have the Carolina Panthers who should be back at full strength to start the season. Close behind the Panthers are the Buccaneers, who could wind up ahead of them if Delhomme gets injured again. Bringing up the rear is the Falcons, who will be happy to win 4 games this season.

NFC West
Now it might look easier than it really is in this division, as it seemed everyone but the Seahawks performed below expectations. Because of that we give the Seahawks a slight edge over the Rams, who should be one of the most improved teams in football. Next in line we got the Cardinals breaking away slightly over the 49ers, who can’t be too far away from a big year with all the young talent they are building up.
