2008 Samsung 500 Odds & Predictions
April 1, 2008
NASCAR is heading to Texas for the first of two races at Texas Motor Speedway. The race is set to get underway on April 6th in one of the biggest racing stadiums of the year. Texas Motor Speedway seats over 200,000 people and only Brickyard has more people attend its race. This race has seen a variety of winners, and only last year’s winner Jeff Burton holds to wins here. Last week Denny Hamlin took home the victory at the Goody’s Orange 500 over Jeff Gordon and Burton. While Hendricks Motorsports has yet to get on track this season with a win, Gibbs and Rousch racing have both been great so far. Both Gordon and Earnhardt Jr. have been respectable this season, but last years point winner Jimmie Johnson has yet to regain the form that had many believing he would make a run at a 3rd straight title. But maybe last week was a sign for a change as Gordon took home 2nd, Johnson finished 4th, and Junior took home a respectable 6th place finish. So will the others continue to dominate in ‘08 or will Hendricks get back to its winning ways? That can only be answered with the race itself, but here are two guys we think who have a good shot to enter victory lane this weekend.#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 8-1 at Sportsbook.com
Earnhardt Jr. has easily been the most consistent racer for Hendricks Motorsports, as he currently sits 4th in the points standings. While he has yet to notch his first victory of the season, he has finished in the top 10 in all but one of the races this season. He has 3 top 5 finishes, with his best finish coming UAW - Dodge 400 where he took home 2nd. While there hasn’t been a lot of repeat winners here at Texas Motor Speedway, past success is a good key to how a racer will perform. Earnhardt took home the checked flag here back in 2000, and has had many solid finishes here. The races at Vegas and Atlanta are usually good indicators to how the driver is doing here, as they are both similar types of tracks. With a 2nd place finish at Vegas and 3rd place finish at Atlanta have Junior our pick to take home the checkered flag this week.
#20 Tony Stewart 8-1 at Sportsbook.com
Here is another guy who has yet to enter victory lane, but unlike Earnhardt his teammates have both taken home victories this season. Kenny Hamlin got his first win of the season last week, and currently sits atop the point standings. Other teammate Kyle Busch took home a victory at the Kobalt Tools 500, and has 3 other top 5 finishes. Stewart also has 3 top 5 finishes with his 3rd coming last week at the Goody’s Orange 500. His best finish of the season came at the Kobalt Tools 500 as he finished 2nd behind Busch. Stewart also has a victory here at Texas Motor Speedway, and should be primed for yet another solid finish. Stewart currently sits 5th in the point standings and could use a much needed victory this week. So if you aren’t with us on Junior, Stewart is one hell of a back up plan to take home the victory and enter victory lane.
