2008 Tennessee Titans

Written August 7, 2008 by Jason Lowry

A new NFL season is about to come knocking on our door, and Jason Lowry is ready to help you out with his 2008 Tennessee Titans season predictions. The Titans finished up 2007 with a 10-6 record, and it was only good enough for 3rd in the AFC South, but they still snuck in as the last Wild Card team. This year the Titans hope that they not only return to the playoffs but take another step forward and be a force in the playoffs. The Titans have made some nice additions to the team in 2008, including the return of defensive end Jevon Kearse and a solid tight end in Alge Crumpler. In order to get a better idea of just what the Titans will look like this season, lets take a closer look at who they will be sending out on the field.

Offense:
The team is hoping that Vince Young can get some of that mobility that landed him the offensive rookie of the year in 2006. Last year Young not only seemed a little less agile on this feet, but was only able to toss 9 touchdowns. His completion percentage went up last year, so we are thinking this could be the breakout season everyone is waiting for. The team is counting on LenDale White to put up the same kind of numbers he did last year, and they are saying if he gets his conditioning going he could be in for a monster season. Crumpler is going to be a nice addition to the team, as he will give Young someone he can rely on to make the tough catch, while guys like Justin Gage and Roydell Williams continue to get better. The offensive line is solid even though it lost both its guards from last season, as they picked up Jake Scott from the Colts, and plan on plugging one of three youngsters in the other spot.

Defense:
The Titans have a great defensive line and the combination of Kyle Vanden Bosch at end along side tackle Albert Haynesworth is almost unstoppable, and the other side is counting on Kearse to bring back some of the magic that landed him the nickname “the freak.” At linebacker the team loves what they get out of outside backer Keith Bulluck, and think its only a matter of time till people start recognizing the play of David Thorton on the other side. The secondary brings back the same starting four from a year ago and they like what they get out of the corner combination of Nick Harper and Cortland Finnegan. The team gave up on putting Michael Griffin at corner and it worked out well as he did a solid job at free safety, but what this unit really needs is a healthy Chris Hope, as he missed the last 5 games of the season with an injury.

Special Teams:
While the kicking game looks to remain solid with Rob Bironas nailing 35 of 39 field goals a year ago, and there isn’t much to complain about the job Craig Hentrich did punting. What this team is still searching for is a solid punt returner, they hope either Chris Carr or Chris Johnson will step up and fill the hole.

Prediction: 2nd in the AFC South
We like what we see in this team, and really feel like they are going to be a force each and every week this season. While they might not have the fire power to hang with the Colts in the South, we do see them climbing past the Jaguars. We look for this team to be right around 11 wins this season.
