2008 Toyota Save Mart 350

Written June 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Last week Dale Earnhartdt Jr. finally got on the board this season, as he captured his first win of the Sprint Cup Series at the LifeLock 400. Also worth mentioning Kasey Kahne kept his hot streak alive as he finished second and continued his climb to the top of the point standings. This week Jason Lowry is ready to make his 2008 Toyota/Save Mart 350 predictions. As drivers head to the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California for the race on Sunday June 22nd, some fans might not realize that this is one of two road races of the season. While many hate the road courses because of their unusual layout, there will definitely be some drivers happy to see a chance this weekend. When it comes to predicting a race like this you have to really look into who does well on these kind of tracks, and stay far away from the guys who don’t. So with that said lets take a look at 2 favorites we feel have a great shot at winning this weekend.

Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

#24 Jeff Gordon - 4/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
If there was one guy that you had to put your life on winning the race this weekend, it would be this guy as he has simply been the king of road races during his amazing career. Gordon has 9 career wins on road courses and 15 total top 5 finishes. We are talking this guy has won 5 out of the last 10 races here, and his last one came just two years ago in 2006. Gordon has raced well this season as he is currently 9th in the point standings, but has yet to enter the winners circle this year. Gordon did have a stretch from race 11-14 where he finished in the top 5 in all 3 races. If you are looking for someone that knows how to run these races, and has had a lot of success doing it then take Gordon this weekend in Cali.

#20 Tony Stewart - 4/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
If there has been any other driver that has dominated road races besides Gordon in the last 15 years it would be Tony Stewart. He has 6 career wins on road races, and 8 top 5 finishes. While his numbers aren’t near as impressive as Gordons, he is a great pick to win the race this weekend. Similiar to Gordon, Stewart hasn’t really raced well this season, as he is yet to take home a checkered flag. But if you are looking for a race for him to do it would be this one.Stewart finished 6th here a year ago and he last won the event back in 2005.
