2009 All State 400 at the Brickyard Predictions
Written July 24, 2009 by Jason Lowry
After a week off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series gears up for the 2009 All State 400 at the Brickyard this Sunday. For many drivers this is the biggest race of the season next to the Daytona 500, as many kids dream of winning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last year Jimmie Johnson took the checkered flag for the second time in his career at this event, but the guy who has won here the most is Johnson’s teammate Jeff Gordon, who won for the fourth time back in 2004. On top of all that we are quickly closing in on the end of the regular season for the Sprint Cup series, and guys like Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth are sitting right on the bubble. To help you get going on the action here is a quick look at the three drivers I feel have a great shot at winning this weekend.
Tony Stewart +600 to win at Sportsbook.com: What a year it has been for Stewart, who comes in to the race this weekend in first place in the points standings, thanks to 2 wins and 11 top 5 finishes. Stewart is no stranger to the Brickyard, as he won for the second time at this event in 2007. Another example of how well Stewart is racing this season, is he has finished outside of the top 8 just 4 times this season, and we are entering the 20th race of the season this week. If you are looking for a sure thing to put your money on this weekend, than my suggestion is to take Stewart, as I don’t see any way this guy isn’t fighting for the win when the final few laps get underway.
Jeff Gordon +700 to win at Sportsbook.com: Gordon is currently second in the points standings, and a lock to make it to the final 12, but I think Gordon has a great shot at winning the race this weekend. I have already mentioned that he won this race four times in his career, including his second win of his career back in 1994. Gordon has had some trouble finding the checkered flag this season, with his only win coming at the Samsung 500, but he has 10 top 5 finishes, including three second place finishes in his last 5 starts. Gordon has finished outside of the top 10 just 3 times since 1994 at this event, and I see no reason why he won’t be right there with a chance to win again this Sunday.
Kyle Busch +800 to win at Sportsbook.com: After the dominating performance Busch gave racing fans last season, its hard to imagine that this guy might not make it to the final 12. Busch currently sits in 10th place just 13 points ahead of Greg Biffle, who currently sits in 13th. This will be just the fifth time Busch has raced at this event, but he has finished in the top 10 three times already. I know it may not be Busch’s season, but I have a great feeling that he is going to be right in the thick of things when the final laps come rolling around.
