2009 Arizona Cardinals Schedule
Written May 28, 2009 by InfoPlays
A win in Week 14 last season over the St. Louis Rams clinched the NFC West Division for the Arizona Cardinals en route to a 9-7 campaign overall. It’s likely that a repeat record would be enough for Arizona to become NFC West champions again, but the 49ers and Seahawks will each be more competitive than they were a year ago. The odds makers feel that Arizona has what it takes for a repeat season, as the Cardinals projected win total is set at 9 games. Let’s take a look at where their wins and losses come from this season to see how accurate their predictions are. See the NFL projected win totals for every team this year. Fittingly, the Cardinals start out their preseason facing the same team they lost to in last year’s Super Bowl. Arizona travels to Pittsburgh on August 13th to take on the Steelers. They follow that contest up with an August 22nd home meeting with the San Diego Chargers. The Cardinals stay at home to face the Green Bay Packers on August 28th. Their preseason schedule concludes with a road game at the Denver Broncos on September 3rd. Get 2009 Arizona Cardinals tickets with StubHub!
Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at home against the San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers prove that they are a team to be reckoned with in the NFC West in Week 1, but Arizona pulls out a close victory to open the season.
Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at the Jacksonville Jaguars – Jacksonville takes this one at home as they start out the season very hungry following a letdown in 2008.
Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Indianapolis Colts – This game has all the makings of a shootout, which is exactly what Arizona wants at home. They’ll sneak out the “W”.
Week 5 – Sunday, October 11th at home against the Houston Texans – Another high-scoring game against a good offense, but Arizona has just enough defense to earn the victory at home.
Week 6 - Sunday, October 18th at the Seattle Seahawks – Seattle makes a bit of a statement in Week 6 with a big divisional home win here.
Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at the New York Giants – Arizona cannot compete with the Giants just yet. New York is a complete team and Arizona is not and the final score shows it.
Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at home against the Carolina Panthers – Arizona’s first letdown of the season comes here against Carolina. Remember, the Panthers lost in the playoffs last season to Arizona and they’ll return the favor in 2009 with a big road win here.
Week 9 – Sunday, November 8th at the Chicago Bears – This makes 4 straight losses for the Cardinals as Chicago takes this one at Soldier Field.
Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Seattle Seahawks – Arizona gets right back on the winning track by beating Seattle in blowout fashion at home.
Week 11 – Sunday, November 22nd at the St. Louis Rams – The Rams have the offense to keep up with Arizona, but not the defense. Arizona wins with room to spare.
Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at the Tennessee Titans – Tennessee runs wild on this Arizona “D” and milks the clock in the 4th quarter to pull out the victory.
Week 13 - Sunday, December 6th at home against the Minnesota Vikings – The Cardinals remember getting thumped by the Vikings last season at home, and it won’t happen again. Arizona wins.
Week 14 - Monday, December 14th at the San Francisco 49ers – San Francisco gets the victory at home as they fight to stay alive in the playoff race.
Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at the Detroit Lions – This is the start of a great 3-game stretch to end the season for Arizona. The Cardinals win this one in Detroit.
Week 16 - Sunday, December 27th at home against the St. Louis Rams – No way Arizona lets St. Louis spoil their season late in the year. The Cardinals roll again to cap off the season sweep of the Rams.
Week 17 – Sunday, January 3rd at home against the Green Bay Packers – This game could be to win the NFC West Division, and the Cardinals will not squander this opportunity at home. Arizona finishes off the season with 3 straight victories.
Looks like the odds makers are right on the money with the Cardinals this season. I have predicted the Cardinals to finish with a 9-7 record, which should be good enough to win the NFC West after 3 straight victories to end the season. I would stay away from this Futures Bet, but if you made me choose I’d have to go with the OVER 9 wins because a 10-6 record for Arizona is more likely than an 8-8 mark come season’s end.
