2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational Picks & Predictions
Written March 24, 2009 by Jason Lowry
The PGA Tour finishes up its three week stay in Florida this week at the 2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando. The tournament brings another start for Tiger Woods, who is the defending champion of this event, and this marks a big tournament for Woods, as there is only 2 weeks till the Masters. In fact many players this weekend will be fine tuning their games for the Masters, but still looking for a big win on Palmer’s home course. With the tournament just a couple days away, here is a look at 3 golfers I think have a great shot at winning this weekend on the very long and challenging Bay Hill Club and Lounge.
Kenny Perry +2500 odds to win at Sportsbook.com: Perry is having no trouble transferring his great play of 2008, where he won 3 times with 7 top 10 finishes, as he already has a win this season (FBR Open) and 4 top 10 finishes. Perry has had some success here before, as he won this event back in 2005 and finished 2nd in 2004 and 2003. Perry’s great ball striking should be a big advantage this weekend, as he comes in 27th in total driving and 16th in greens in regulation. Look for Perry to give Woods all he can handle this weekend, and it could be Woods coming after Perry on the final round on Sunday.
Sean O’Hair +3000 odds to win at Sportsbook.com: O’Hair hasn’t won this season, but has had a bunch of success with 3 top 10 finishes, including a 4th place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship early this season. The real reason that I like O’Hair this week is his recent success here at Bay Hill, including a tie for 3rd here last year. O’Hair also has the game that fits this course, as he ranks 40th in total driving and 17th in greens in regulation. Look for O’Hair to be right in the thick of things come the final two rounds this weekend.
Vijay Singh +3000 odds to win at Sportsbook.com: Here is a guy that is getting up there in age, and isn’t playing the best golf with his best finish being a tie for 17th at the Accenture Match Play Championship, but Singh returns to a course he has played well at, including a win here in 2007 and a tie for 3rd last year. Singh will need the driver to pick it up this week, as he ranks 108th in total driving, but his irons seem to be in tune, as he is 22nd in greens in regulation. Singh is a scary pick this weekend, and I think he gets his game going just in time for another run at the Masters.
