2009 Auto Club 500 Betting Odds & Predictions
Written February 19, 2009 by Jason Lowry
It was a pretty wild and crazy start to the 2009 season at the Daytona 500, as a couple big wrecks and rain that caused the race to end early gave Matt Kenseth the biggest win of his career. This week the Spring Cup Series heads to Fontana, Calif. as drivers get ready to tackle the California Speedway for the first time this season at the Auto Club 500. Last year it was Carl Edwards who took home the checkered flag, as he ended a 2 year run by Kenseth. The 2 mile oval track is not the typical course you will find, as its pretty much flat throughout with only 14-degree banking. A lot of times the key here is to take your time and let the race come to you, and here are 3 drivers that we feel have the best shot at bringing home a win this weekend.
Kyle Busch +500 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
For those of you that tuned into the Daytona 500 last week, noticed the unfortunate luck Busch had go his way, as he was pretty much dominating the race before a huge pile up knocked him out. Busch has not won the Auto Club 500 but has had some success on similar tracks. This guy really came on last season, and we think he gets 2009 off on the right food this week with a big win at Fontana.
Matt Kenseth +1000 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
The Daytona 500 might not have gone exactly as Kenseth planned, but when you struggled through 2008 like this guy did, you will take whatever you can get. Kenseth has had success here at Fontana winning in both 2006 and 2007 and has 10 top ten finishes here throughout his career. It’s not easy backing up the Daytona 500 with a win the following week, but you never know when a race is going to get handed to you.
Jeff Gordon +1500 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Gordon has been a model of consistency throughout his career, and though his wins aren’t piling up like they once were, this guy still knows how to race, and is still one of the respected drivers in all of NASCAR. Gordon has won this race 3 times in his career, with the most recent coming in 2004. He raced well here a year ago finishing 3rd, and with the odds he is getting, he is a great pick to come through with a very nice performance this weekend.
We know that there are a number of great drivers that could win this race, but these are the 3 guys that we think are heading into the race with the best shot at winning or at least being right there when it matters most.
