2009 Buick Invitational Predictions
Written February 4, 2009 by Jack Jones
One thing is for sure this week when the PGA TOUR heads to San Diego this weekend for the 2009 Buick Invitational, Tiger Woods streak of 4 straight wins will finally come to an end, and many golfers have to be happy that Woods and his 6 career wins on this course will not be in action. Another player that won’t be in action this week is Kenny Perry, who won for the 4th time in a little over a year last week at the FBR Open. The guy getting most of the attention this week will be Phil Mickelson, who had a real rough open to the 2009 season failing to make the cut last week. To get you going on the upcoming action here is a look at 3 golfers week think are set to have a big showing this week at the Buick Open.
Phil Mickelson +800 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
We know we are going with Mickelson in back to back weeks, and we were completely wrong last week, as he tanked in the FBR Open, but do you really think this guy is going to come out and put up those same kind of numbers this week. Mickelson has won this event 3 times in his career, and should get a big boost without Tiger in the field. Mickelson finished tied for 6th here a year ago, and we would be absolutely shocked if this guy wasn’t in the top 3 this weekend.
Rory Sabbatini +2000 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Here is a guy that hasn’t won since 2007, but we got a real good feeling that 2009 is going to be a real big year for South African. Sabbatini has started the season strong with two top 25, including a 12th place finish last week. Sabbatini has also had some recent success at the Buick Invitational, including a 3rd place finish here a year ago. This could very well be a week the Sabbatini comes out and surprises everyone with a win, but if not we see a top 10 finish in store for this guy.
Charles Howell III +2500 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Howell III is just about that age where golfers seem to figure things out, and after 8 years on tour, we think that this guy is going to start winning and winning often. Howell III had a rough 2008 after his best season as a pro in 2007, and we think that 2009 will also be the year of Howell III. Howell III finished 4th at Sony Open in his only start this season. In his last two Buick Invitationals Howell III has a 2nd place finish in 2007 and a 13th place finish here last year, so if you are looking for a slight sleeper this weekend, its this guy.
