2009 NCAA Tournament East Region Predictions

east-region Its that time of year to get your NCAA Tournament brackets filled out, and it could be a tournament filled with upsets, or it could pretty much go as it should, just like it did in 2008 when all four No.1 seeds made the Final Four. To give you a little extra help on the upcoming tournament, here are my predictions for the East Region.

First Round: This region is loaded with some really good teams, as there are a number of teams I feel could get hot and make a run at the Final Four, and for that reason I pretty much see the first round going completely chalk, as the only upset I am predicting is No.9 Tennessee over No.8 Oklahoma State. That means No.1 Pittsburgh, No.2 Duke, No.3 Villanova, No.4 Xavier, No.5 Florida State, No.6 UCLA, and No.7 Texas are all moving on to the round of 32. Bet first round action at Bookmaker.com.

Second Round: Here are where things get interesting, as all 4 games could very easily come down to the wire. I think No.1 Pittsburgh struggles with No.9 Tennessee, but finds a way to move on to the Sweet 16. I also like No.2 Duke to take care of No.7 Texas and No.3 Villanova to take out No.6 UCLA. The Lone upset I see coming out of this round is No.5 Florida State knocking off No.4 Xavier. Bet second round action at Bookmaker.com.

Sweet 16: This leaves No.1 Pittsburgh taking on No.5 Florida State and No.2 Duke taking on No.3 Villanova. I feel like that Pittsburgh will matchup well with Florida State and make pretty easy work of the Seminoles, just as they did in the regular season, but as far as picking between Duke and Villanova, thats not as easy as it looks. Many think Villanova will be the team to make it out of this region, but I feel like Duke will have what it takes to make it into Elite 8, and move just 1 game away from yet another trip to the Final Four. Elite 8: That leaves No.1 Pittsburgh taking on No.2 Duke in what could be one of the most entertaining games of the entire tournament. I know that many aren’t giving the Blue Devils a shot to even get by Villanova in the Sweet 16, but I feel like this is a team nobody wants to play, and they prove that by taking out No.1 seeded Pittsburgh and moving into the Final Four for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
