2009 Final Four Betting Props

Written March 31, 2009 by Steve Janus

final-four-betting-props-033109As with any major sporting event the Final Four has it’s fair share of proposition bets this season.  For those of you new to propositions (props) you are basically betting on some outcome of an event other than the traditional forms of betting.  Here’s a look at some of the more popular props for the 2009 Final Four:

Odds to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player - This award is given to the player who has the biggest impact on their team’s success throughout the tournament.  The winner is usually going to be on the NCAA championship team, but there certainly could be a player in this year’s field that plays so well that they could be named the tournament’s MOP without actually taking home the title.  The favorite for the award right now is Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina (+250).  Hansbrough almost always has a positive impact on his team and since the Tar Heels are the favorite to win the championship this year, why not have him at the top of the list?  Another Tar Heel, ACC Player of the Year, Ty Lawson is second on the list at +350 odds.  Lawson may have very well been the best overall player in the tournament so far, leading all remaining players in points and assists per game.  Here are the odds on players from some of the other Final Four teams:  A.J. Price (UConn) +450, Kalin Lucas (Michigan State) +700, Jeff Adrien (UConn) +800, Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) +800, Dante Cunningham (Villanova) +1000, Goran Suton (Michigan State) +1000.  If you think some other player could rise above the rest, you can also bet “the field”, or any player not listed, at +400.

Highest Scoring Final Four Team - You can also bet on which team will score the most points in the Final Four round.  North Carolina is the overwhelming favorite at -200 to score the most points on Saturday with Villanova second at +350, UConn coming in third at +400, and Michigan State expected to score the least amount of points at +800 to score more than any other team.

Individual Player Props – Most Points – Which player is going to score the most points on Saturday?  If you think you know, why not bet on this prop?  Not surprisingly, these players are similar to the MOP players.  Tyler Hansbrough again leads the way at +200 odds to score the most points.  Here’s how the rest of this year’s Final Four players stack up:  A.J. Price (UConn) +250, Ty Lawson (UNC) +300, Dante Cunningham (Villanova) +500, Jeff Adrien (UConn) +600, Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) +1200, Kalin Lucas (Michigan State) +1500.

Individual Player Props – Most Rebounds - Four players have been identified as the best rebounders left in the NCAA tournament, and you can bet on who will have the most boards on Saturday.  Nobody should be surprised that UConn’s big man, Hasheem Thabeet is the favorite at -130 to have the most rebounds, but you may not be familiar with Michigan State’s Goran Suton who actually has more rebounds per game than Thabeet in the tournament and comes in at +250 odds for this prop.  Nova’s Dante Cunningham and North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough are both listed at +400 odds.
