Houston Texans Schedule 2009

Written May 21, 2009 by Steve Janus

houston-texans-schedule-2009We’ll kick off the AFC South in our look at the 2009 NFL schedules with the Houston Texans.  The Texans were an improved team last year, and the 2009 projected NFL win totals expect them to be pretty good once again, placing the Over/Under for their win total at 8.  Let’s check out Houston’s schedule and see where their wins and losses might fall.  If you want to bet the win total for the Texans, if you want to bet the NFL this season, or if you just want a great deal at a solid sportsbook, take advantage of our $500 match bonus with BetUS.  Just open an new account using BetFirms as your referrer, deposit at least $500, and get another $500 added to your bankroll!  It’s that simple!

The Texans start their pre-season on Saturday, August 15 at the Kansas City Chiefs this year.  From KC, they’ll head back to Houston for a pair of games, first on Saturday, August 22nd against the New Orleans Saints, then versus the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, August 31st.  The Texans’ final tune-up before the regular season starts will be at the Tampa Bay Bucs on Friday, September 4th.  For tickets to Texans’ games, or any of your favorite NFL teams, we recommend StubHub.

2009 Houston Texans Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at home against the New York Jets – The Jets had one of the worst defenses against the pass in the NFL last year, the Texans ranked 4th in total passing yards.  Houston wins in their home opener.

Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at the Tennessee Titans – This is a pretty good match up for Houston, but the Titans ultimately win at home.

Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars – The Texans always play the Jags well.  I expect Houston to win this one at home.

Week 4 – Sunday, October 4th at home against the Oakland Raiders – The Raiders are still just plain awful.  Win for the Texans.

Week 5 – Sunday, October 11th at the Arizona Cardinals – The Cards have a little too much firepower for a Houston defense that ranked 27th in the NFL in points allowed last season.  Arizona wins here.

Week 6 – Sunday, October 18th at the Cincinnati Bengals – These are two offensive-minded teams with the ability to explode for a lot of points.  Houston wins in a shoot-out in Cincinnati.

Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at home against the San Francisco 49ers – While the 49ers improved down the stretch last year, I think Houston has built a better team at this point.  Win for the Texans.

Week 8 – Sunday, November 1st at the Buffalo Bills – Tough match up on the road, but I see a hard-fought road victory by Houston here.

Week 9 – Sunday, November 8th at the Indianapolis Colts – This is another team the Texans always seem to play close, but the Colts are just too good at home.

Week 10 – BYE

Week 11 – Monday, November 23rd at home against the Tennessee Titans – The Texans put up a fight, but the Titans walk away with the series sweep in 2009.

Week 12 – Sunday, November 29th at home against the Indianapolis Colts – Again, it should be a close game, I just think the Colts will walk away with the victory.

Week 13 - Sunday, December 6th at the Jacksonville Jaguars – Just like last season, the Texans win against the Jags in Houston, but lose in Jacksonville.

Week 14 – Sunday, December 13th at home against the Seattle Seahawks – Seattle finished near the bottom of the league in total offense and defense last season.  They had some injuries and have made some improvements, but it won’t be enough to get them past the Texans in Houston here.

Week 15 – Sunday, December 20th at the St. Louis Rams – It’s going to be hard for the Rams to find wins in 2009.  This isn’t a good place to look for one.  I’ll pick Houston to win in St. Louis.

Week 16 – Sunday, December 27th at the Miami Dolphins – The Texans beat the Dolphins in Miami last year, but don’t expect a repeat performance.

Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the New England Patriots – The Pats may be resting players at this point, but I still feel this is a win for New England.
