2009 Lifelock.com 400 Predictions
Written July 9, 2009 by Jason Lowry
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is headed back to the midwest this weekend for the 2009 running of the Lifelock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, not to be confused with the Lifelock 400 ran at Michigan International Speedway earlier this season. It was an exciting weekend of racing over the 4th of July, as Tony Stewart added to his points lead with his second win of the season at the Coke Zero 400, and he just so happens to be one of two drivers that have won here at Chicago multiple times. For Stewart to add to his win total he will have to hold off defending champion Kyle Busch. The race this weekend marks just the ninth race ran on this track, as it was first introduced back in 2001 as the Tropicana 400. With the race scheduled to get underway this Saturday night, here is a look at the three drivers I feel have the best shot at coming away with a win.
Jimmie Johnson +450 to win at Sportsbook.com: Johnson has not won here at Chicagoland Speedway, but has only finished outside of the top 6 once, and that was because of an accident back in 2007. Last year Johnson finished 2nd for the 2nd time at this track, and its only a matter of time before this guy wins at this racetrack. Johnson has just two wins on the season, but he has really raced well lately, including a 2nd place finish last week at the Coke Zero 400. I think if you are looking for a sure pick this weekend then Johnson is your guy, as I will be putting my money on the No.48 car.
Jeff Gordon +800 to win at Sportsbook.com: Gordon is currently sandwiched in between Johnson and Stewart in the points standings, and the way he is racing this season he is a threat to win each and every time he steps on the track. After a strong 2nd place finish at the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 a couple of weeks ago, Gordon had a little more trouble at the Coke Zero 400 finishing 28th. This week Gordon heads to Chicagoland where Chevrolet cars have dominated, as Chevy cars have won 6 of the 8 races ran on this track, making both Gordon and Johnson that much more of a threat this weekend. One of those wins came from Gordon back in 2006, and it marked the 4th time Gordon has finished in the top 5 at this track. I think Gordon is right there with a chance to win this weekend, and if Johnson is unable to take the checkered flag I think Gordon will be there to take home the win.
Kurt Busch +1200 to win at Sportsbook.com: Busch will try and become just the second Dodge driver to make his way to victory lane at Chicagoland, but with the way Kurt is racing, I think he has a great shot to surprise yet again this weekend. All the attention usually falls on brother Kyle Busch, but Kurt is the one running better this season, as Kurt sits in 4th place in the points standings while his brother Kyle sits in 8th. In eight starts at Chicagoland Busch has finished in the top 10 5 times, and with the way this guy is racing I think he is the best sleeper in the field. So if value is what you are looking for in your bet, I think Busch is your best option.
