Miami Dolphins 2009 Schedule
Written May 11, 2009 by Steve Janus
The Miami Dolphins pulled off the greatest one-year turnaround in NFL history last year, winning 11 games and making the playoffs just one year after a 1-15 season. Expectations may be high for this team again in 2009, but oddsmakers are being realistic with the team, listing the projected win total for the Miami Dolphins at 7. Let’s go ahead and look at the Dolphin’s schedule for this year and make some quick predictions on wins and losses to see if the books got this number right. Right now you can get your 2009 Miami Dolphins tickets over at StubHub!
First, we’ll take a quick look at the Dolphins’ pre-season schedule. Miami plays in just three pre-season games this year, starting at home against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, August 22nd. The following Thursday, August 27th, the Dolphins host the Tampa Bay Bucs, then finish out their 2009 pre-season with another game in Miami on Thursday, September 3rd against the New Orleans Saints. If you are looking to bet the NFL this season, why not sign up for an account with BetUS? Our readers currently get a $500 match bonus for $500 deposits!
Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at the Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons went 7-1 at home last year. Even though the Dolphins went 6-2 on the road, I’ll side with the home team in the Dolphin’s opener.
Week 2 - Monday, September 21st at home against the Indianapolis Colts: Tough home opener on Monday Night Football against the Colts. Indy will be hungry and should out-gun the ‘Phins here, moving them to 0-2.
Week 3 - Sunday, September 27th at the San Diego Chargers: Traveling cross-country on short rest is rarely a recipe for success, especially against a perennial playoff team like the Chargers.
Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at home against the Buffalo Bills: Back home for a game they should win. They beat Buffalo twice in 2008.
Week 5 - Monday, October 12th at home against the New York Jets:Â The Jets won late last year with the Dolphins on the road, Miami wins on their home turf on Monday Night Football.
Week 6 - BYE
Week 7 – Sunday, October 25th at home against the New Orleans Saints:Â In New Orleans the Saint probably win this one, in Miami the edge goes to the Dolphins.
Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at the New York Jets: First of two tough road games in a row. Miami loses a close one to the Jets in Week 8.
Week 9 - Sunday, November 8th at the New England Patriots:Â Patriots shouldn’t miss the playoffs this year, and they shouldn’t lose to the Dolphins at home either.
Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Tampa Bay Bucs: Miami has put a lot of good pieces in place for 2009, the Bucs are still a work in progress. Close win for the Dolphins in Miami against Tampa Bay.
Week 11 - Thursday, November 19th at the Carolina Panthers: The Panthers were undefeated at home during the regular season last year. They’ll be tough there again. Dolphins lose this one.
Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at the Buffalo Bills: These teams match up well. Close game, but the Bills defeat the Dolphins in Buffalo.
Week 13 - Sunday, December 6th at home against the New England Patriots: Miami shocked the Pats in New England last year. Patriots perform the 2-game sweep this year and beat the Dolphins at home.
Week 14 - Sunday, December 13th at the Jacksonville Jaguars: Jags struggled at home in ‘08. I’m giving the Dolphins the edge.
Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at the Tennessee Titans: Let down potential for the Titans this year. Miami can steal this one.
Week 16 – Sunday December 27th at home against the Houston Texans: Texans are a good young team, the Dolphins are better at home. Miami wins here.
Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers:Â With the defending champs likely headed back to the playoffs, I’m projecting them to play their second team, and the Dolphins to close out the year at home with a victory.

Got something to say?

“Week 7 – Sunday, October 25th at home against the New Orleans Saints: In New Orleans the Saint probably win this one, in Miami the edge goes to the Dolphins.”
You really think it’s just that simple, huh? Home field advantage gives the Fish the “W” over the Saints right? Right! I’d bet you straight up even money on that one and I’ll take the Saints all day long!

I know what you are saying. It’s not that simple but with these schedule articles we are taking the odds makers predicted win totals (set by Vegas not us) and projecting that out to which games that means they would be favored or underdogs. Obviously you see underdogs winning every week in the NFL, but home teams do have almost a touchdown advantage so you’ll see us taking a lot more home teams that visitors with this set of articles. You seem to be a Saints fan, and I think your guys are going to have a solid year this year so it should be exciting for you. – Jack

Jason Taylor, Cameron Wake, Joey Porter, Matt Roth, Jake Long, Jake Grove. Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Chad Pennington, Pat White! Patrick Turner, Ted Ginn, Jr., Greg Camarillo, Davone Bess. Fasano , Martin, Haynos. Vontae Davis,Channing Crowder, Sean Smith, Yeremiah Bell, Will Allen. Brandon Fields, Dan Carpenter. The Big Tuna, Tony Sparano, 11-5, Division Champs. And you got’em at par? You must be a Pats fan! That’s OK! It’s fun to predict but it’s gonna be even more fun to watch this team turn the game of football on it’s head this year. Every so often a team comes around and changes the way the game is played. The Fins started that last year and they just got a whole lot better and everybody is healthy…for now. 8-8 is a cop out on your part. It’s fence sitting at best. What say you if we acquire Anquan??? Can we get an extra game from you….maybe two? p.s. Did I mention Pat White?

Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor will help Porter not get double teamed and have another great year as well as big years themselves. Wilson,Green,Davis and Smith added to the DBack field will help the secondary. Our two D ends are not rookies anymore and big & strong.
I really feel we could be a top 5 defense against the run and top 12 against the pass this year.Dolphins are a big strong and fast team unlike any other Dolphin team in history.
I like Pat White in the wildcat with 6′5 turner and Ginn at receiver and Ronny & Ricky as the RB in it. Try and stop the run and he can throw to speedy Ginn in 1 on 1 or tall & strong turner in 1 on 1 coverage, double team the receivers and Pat will run alot of yds in wildcat this year. Pick your poison defenses.
I like Chad Pennington’s mgt. of the game but yes we need to stretch the field, unless our O line run blocks well, Ricky and Ronny steam roll and our defense holds the points down then that will work.
I feel this yr has playoff ability for the DOLPHINS it will be tough though.
Next year and one more draft, Henne as the starter and
White as the 2nd year Wildcat operator and I feel the Fins have a big chance at a Super Bowl run.
If Turner turns into a great receiver that is one key, especially in the red zone.
If him and Pat White can take the heat off Ginn, Ronny, and Ricky and Chad its going to be a strong offense.

Also let me say I hate the Jets , Pats and Bills but give them credit still, Sanchez will be great. Brady will be Great.
Pats defense is getting old but they had a good Draft.
All these teams always play good against each other.
I ain’t bragging on the Dolphins but they will be alot better than people think, Jets look good on paper but coaching changes and QB changes can take time.
Dolphisns went thru so many coaches ,QBs and playbooks in the past 7 yrs and that was a big problem.
Fins have stability there now at all positions and that will be the difference I feel in the AFC east.
If Brady isn’t him self that would be a good thing for the fins, I think he will come on strong at the end as well as Sanchez. Bills I’m not sure but Offense looks Dangerous with Evans,Owens. there O line is all new so it depends alot on that.

Keep under-estimating the Fins and the Marlins…we like it that way! And sitting in the stands with a bunch of rowdy New-Yorkers when we beat the crud out of the Jets in October will be sweet! GO FINS!

i think my dolphins will stand at 10 and 6 at the end of season due to our hard schedule and playing the best teams in nfl for 2009.the only way i see them making playoffs is if they beat the pats and take the division.i dont see us making wild card.division champs or no playoffs
