2009 New York Giants Football Predictions
Written July 27, 2009 by Nick Scarpa
With a roster chock full of talent and depth on both offense and defense the 2009 New York Giants are poised to make another run at the NFL championship. Quarterback Eli Manning will have to make due without his primary receiving target in Plaxico Burress. A handful of young wideouts will be counted on to replace Burress who was sorely missed in the second half of last season. The defense has the best front seven in the NFL but the team lost brilliant defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Giants have the formula for a 2010 Superbowl run with a power running game, big-time QB, experience and a blue-chip defense. Bet the Giants +150 to win the NFC East at Sportsbook.com.
The Giants are best when they are mauling opposing defenses into the ground with 265 Lb. bulldozer Brandon Jacobs. New York wants to establish the deep pass more this season with their youthful speed on the outside and will need the running game to open things up once again. The offensive line is a top-3 NFL unit and protects Eli Manning like a bullet proof vest. Manning is still a streaky passer but made strides last season in both the locker room and with his on-field decision making. The Giants offense could be more potent late in the season in 2009 once the young wideouts gain some experience.

The Giants D-line is the best in the NFL and will benefit from some key off-season acquisitions in Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Also likely to make a major impact is pass-rushing menace Osi Umenyiora who is returning from knee surgery. The defense could be a bit more conservative on blitzes with the loss of super-aggressive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo but has a capable replacement in last year’s linebackers coach Bill Sheridan. The linebackers are solid with veteran leader Antonio Pierce and new addition Michael Boley leading the charge. The secondary is big and solid in man coverage and is a top-10 NFL unit. The defense has some new faces but should match last year’s excellence. Bet the Giants +1000 to win the Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com.
