2009 NFL Mock Draft: 11-15
Written March 1, 2009 by Jack Jones
Craig Trapp has put together a few articles for us already on his predictions for the first five picks on the NFL draft and then continuing with picks 6 through 10. Now he continues his coverage with a look at the next five picks, teams with positions 11 through 15 in the draft.
11. Buffalo Bills
Needs: Tight End, Offensive Line, & Defensive End
The Bills have a lot of holes to fill if they want to make the next step as a franchise, but their pick here is going to have more to do with what’s left on the board than any specific positional gaps they have.
Pick: Brandon Pettigrew
I’m hearing reports that the Bills love Brian Orakpo and might trade up to get him, but if they stay here and Orakpo is gone then Pettigrew makes sense. He has the tools to be a real offensive weapon.
12. Denver Broncos
Needs: Defensive Line
They need more than one player to shore up their front line, so they should try and trade down for more selections.
Pick: BJ Raji
This guy is a monster at 330 pounds. At Boston College last year he recorded 11 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He should be able to give any team a great push inside.
13. Washington Redskins
Needs: Defensive
No one real position jumps out at me so I’m expecting the Redskins to just go with the best player available.
Pick: Malcolm Jenkins
This Ohio State Buckeye is a real playmaker at cornerback, but he may end up at safety in the NFL. He’s a sure tackler who can support the run and also shut down opposing receivers.
14. New Orleans Saints
Needs: Defense
It would be nice if the Saints could find someone to help their secondary or a defensive tackle to help their run, but this team has a lot of defensive holes to fill.
Pick: Everett Brown
I’ve heard the Saints would love to grab Jenkins, and might trade up in order to get their hands on him. Brown would be a good pick here though as he can play both outside linebacker and defensive end.
15. Houston Texans
Needs: Outside Linebacker & Defensive End
This team doesn’t need much to make the next step and contend in the playoffs, but I’m sure the Texans would like someone who can rush on 3rd downs and stop the run.
Pick: Tyson Jackson
This defensive end out of LSU can get to the quarterback and stop opposing rushers. Plus, he would allow Mario Williams to rush from the right side and wreak havoc.
The Battle Red Blog thinks their Texans are going to trade with the Lions. The Football Expert agrees with a lot of Trapp’s early predictions. Blog Critics takes a look at some possible sleepers for teams.
What do you think of Trapp’s picks from 11-15? Let’s hear about it in the comments.
