2009 NFL Mock Draft: 26-32

Written March 5, 2009 by Jack Jones

Vanderbilt Florida Football
It’s time to finish off Craig Trapp’s 2009 NFL mock draft with his predictions for picks 26-32.  If you have missed any of his previous work then check out his predictions for picks 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, and 21-25.  These selections cover the best teams in the league, so while these franchises might not be able to land the big names, they probably aren’t in dire need of anything anyway.

26.  Baltimore Ravens

Needs: Defense & Wide Receiver

The Ravens haven’t had a legitimate receiving threat in quite some time so giving Joe Flacco some help could help generate offense.  The defense is aging quickly though so the Ravens might also want to reload there.

Pick: Hakeem Nicks

This wide receiver out of North Carolina is big on talent and would provide an upgrade from Derrick Mason.  Nicks has great hands and should be a top play maker in this league.  He could increase his stock enough prior to the draft to move up to the middle of the first round.

27.  Indianapolis Colts

Needs: Defensive Tackle

The Colts needs to give Bob Sanders some help up front when it comes to stopping the run.  Without much doubt Craig thinks Indy will opt for the biggest defensive tackle available.

Pick: Peria Jerry

This defensive tackle out of Ole Miss is the second best at the position and would be a steal for the Colts down this low.

28.  Philadelphia Eagles

Needs: Best Available

With their first pick we thought they would go with the best available, and no reason that’s any different here.

Pick: Sean Smith

This safety/cornerback out of Utah would give the team a defensive play maker.  He can step in right away to provide big plays and depth in the secondary.

29.  New York Giants

Needs: Wide Receiver

Plaxico Burress was a distraction and might be in too much legal trouble to even suit up this year.  The Giants missed his presence after he was suspended so you can expect New York to either trade for a big receiver or draft one.

Pick: Percy Harvin

The speedster out of Florida isn’t built from the same mold as Burress, but he’ll provide speed, which the team sorely misses.  He’s a bit of a risk due to his injury history, but would be a great grab down this far.

30.  Tennessee Titans

Needs: Defensive Tackle & Wide Receiver

The loss of Albert Haynesworth up front provides a glaring hole in the line, but the team also needs someone to throw the ball to.

Pick: Kenny Britt

This wide receiver out of Rutgers has the talent to make big plays down field.  Britt would be a nice compliment to the dominant ground game of the Titans.

31.  Arizona Cardinals

Needs: Defense

This team showed they have a Super Bowl quality offense, but a pass rusher or a shut down corner could push the Cardinals to become World Champions.

Pick: Michael Johnson

This versital defensive end/outside linebacker out of Georgia Tech had a lot of hype surrounding his play, but he never really lived up to his ability.  His athletic gifts are too strong to pass up this late in the draft.

32.  Pittsburgh Steelers

Needs: Offensive line

The Steelers won the Super Bowl last year with the worst starting line they have had in recent memory.  An upgrade at center is probably needed.

Pick: Alex Mack

There are not any great centers in this draft, but with the Steelers snapper giving up more sacks than anyone else in the league they will need to take the best available and that’s Mack.

That concludes Trapp’s NFL draft articles.  Let us know what you thought about his predictions in the comments.
