2009 NFL Mock Draft: 6-10

Written February 28, 2009 by Jack Jones

andre-smith-draftCraig Trapp kicked off our 2009 NFL Mock Draft articles with his predictions on the first five picks.  Now he continues his coverage with a look at the next five picks, teams with positions six through 10 in the draft.

6. Cincinnati Bengals

Needs: Offensive Line

The Bengals need both a center and an offensive tackle, but there aren’t many options available this year at center.  This means you will most likely see them taking a tackle.

Pick: Andre Smith

They would love to get Andre Smith with the sixth selection.  He had some off the field issues which Cincy hopes will leave the Rams gunning for Monroe so they can snag up Smith.

7.  Oakland Raiders

Needs: Offensive Line & Wide Receiver

They have their quarterback in JaMarcus Russell and their running back in Darren McFadden, now just someone to block for them or someone for Russell to throw the ball to.

Pick: Jeremy Maclin

Maclin would give the Raiders a deep threat that they desperately need.  If he’s already been taken by someone else, look for the Raiders to beef up their line.

8.  Jacksonville Jaguars

Needs: Offensive Tackle & Defensive Line

The Jags were hit hard by the injury bug on both fronts last year, and will look to add some depth.

Pick: Jason Smith

Smith has the potential to come in and start right away.  If either of the other two offensive lineman from above are still available they would probably choose them, but Smith would fit in just fine.

9.  Green Bay Packers

Needs: Defensive End & Outside Linebacker

This team needs someone to create a pass rush.  Without any pressure on the opposing quarterback last year things were difficult for their secondary.

Pick: Brian Orakpo

This defensive end out of Texas is an excellent pass rusher.  Supposedly he’s a workout freak who reminds people of the Colts Dwight Freeney.

10.  San Franciso 49ers

Needs: Quarterback, Wide Receiver, & Defensive End

It might be time for this team to give up on Alex Smith and that would mean they need a high profile quarterback here.  If the team sticks with Smith they would opt for a receiver or defensive line help.

Pick: Mark Sanchez

He has been impressive in workouts and has shown to be extremely atheltic.  He’s a California guy coming out of USC so it makes sense.

NFL Mocks has Maclin going to the Raiders, but the 49ers snagging up Stafford.  The Daily Norseman also thinks Stafford goes to the 49ers, Smith to the Jags, and the Bengals will go OT.  Baltimore Beatdown appears to agree with Craig’s about most team’s options, but gives the other route each franchise could go.

Also see’s Craig’s predictions on picks 11-15 of the NFL draft.

What do you guys think of picks six through 10?  Let’s hear about it in the comments.
