Written September 10, 2009 by Anthony Moretti
Do you think your favorite NFL team has what it takes to make the playoffs this year? Would you be willing to bet on it? These are the current NFL odds for teams to make the playoffs, as posted over at BetUS. Speaking of BetUS, did you know that our readers qualify for a $500 match bonus with them? Just open a new account and make your initial deposit of $500 or more, and they will automatically add another $500 to your betting account! It’s that simple! Now let’s take a look at the odds for each NFL team to make the playoffs this season.
Pittsburgh Steelers -400 I’m actually surprised this line isn’t a little higher. They are the defending champs and their division, outside of the Ravens, is pretty weak.
New England Patriots -700 No big surprise here. With Tom Brady back, and presumably healthy, the Pats are the team most likely to make the playoffs this year, according to the odds anyway.
Dallas Cowboys -120 With a division that includes the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins, the Cowboys aren’t going to get great odds to make the playoffs, in fact, both the Giants and Eagles are more likely to make the playoffs than Dallas is according to the odds makers.
New York Giants -175 The Giants are just two years removed from their last Super Bowl victory, but, much like the Cowboys, their strong division makes them far from a lock to make the post season.

Indianapolis Colts -190 Indy has been a close to a sure thing to make the playoffs for the last several years, but with the Titans coming off of a great year, and the Texans developing into a good football team, a playoff ticket is no longer promised to the Colts.
San Diego Chargers -600 After their incredibly strong finish last year, there are few who don’t have the Chargers winning the AFC West.
Baltimore Ravens -150 If it weren’t for the Steelers in their division, this line would be much higher, however, Pitt is the favorite coming out of the AFC North.
Philadelphia Eagles -175 According to these odds, the Eagles and the Giants will slug it out for the NFC East this year. It’s hard to disagree, but don’t count the Cowboys out just yet.
New Orleans Saints EVEN Flip a coin and chose heads or tails. Those are the odds that BetUS thinks the Saints have for making the playoffs this year. The NFC South is up for grabs by anyone, with the possible exception of the Bucs, but the Saints have the firepower to carry them to the post-season.
Minnesota Vikings -165 The buzz has been that the Vikings should be one of the favorites to make the Super Bowl with their top-of-the-league defense, and the addition of Brett Favre. Odds makers disagree, giving Minnesota little more than a coin-flips chance of even making the playoffs.
Carolina Panthers +110 It seems like the Panthers are always underrated. It also always seems like they are in the playoffs come January.
Tennessee Titans -120 It was a banner year for the Titans in ‘08 as they finally busted past the Colts to win the AFC South. Indianapolis is the favorite in the division to make the playoffs, but the Titans still have reason to believe they’ll be playing after week 17.
Atlanta Falcons +110 No teams is really favored to win the NFC South this year. The Falcons have as good a chance as any team in that division other than the Saints to make it to the playoffs.
Green Bay Packers +110 The Bears and the Vikings get all the publicity with their off-season acquisitions, and all of the respect from the odds makers, but the Packers are quietly building a very good team.
Denver Broncos +250 It’s a rebuilding year for Denver and not just from a player standpoint. The entire organization is getting a major overhaul.
Jacksonville Jaguars +160 The Jags are coming off of terrible 5-11 season, and they’ll have to fight with the Titans and Colts in the AFC South. Expect a bounce-back year from Jacksonville, but I’m not sure it will be enough for a playoff run.
Arizona Cardinals -120 Sure, they are coming off of a Super Bowl appearance, but they needed an incredible run to get their last season. The NFC West isn’t great, but it’s improving, and odds makers have taken notice.
New York Jets +250 The AFC East is suddenly a very good division with the Dolphins and Bills building their teams. Bad news for the Jets, who may find themselves as the odd men out.
Miami Dolphins +275 The Dolphins have the same problem that the Jets do, a strong overall division, not to mention the fact that they’ll likely have to out-perform the Patriots again to get to the playoffs this year.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +300 Probably no team underwent more changes than the Bucs did coming into the 2009 season. It’s hard to see them coming together and competing with the stiff competition in the NFC South.
Buffalo Bills +275 The Bills are the underdog in the AFC East. The Pats are the clear favorite, but Buffalo will duke it out with Miami and New York (Jets) and try to pick up enough wins for a Wild Card birth.
Chicago Bears -120 There was reason to be excited when Chicago signed Jay Cutler. Once the honeymoon is over, the Bears will have to find a way to get through a tough NFC North in 2009.
Washington Redskins +175 The Redskins are almost always tough, but they are still behind in terms of talent with the likes of Dallas, Philadelphia, and the Giants.
Seattle Seahawks +125 The NFC West is pretty much up for grabs. Nobody is sold on the Cardinals running away with the division again, so why not the Seahawks?
Houston Texans +135 The Texans keep getting better every year, but their still not to the level of Indy or Tennessee. They still have an outside shot at the playoffs, but they’ll need some breaks along the way.
San Francisco 49ers +150 Similar to the Seahawks, the 49ers have a puncher’s chance at making the playoffs.
Cleveland Browns +350 It’s going to be difficult for the Browns to make the playoffs sharing a division with the Steelers and Ravens.
Oakland Raiders +400 The Raiders are still a long way from being a playoff team in the NFL.
Cincinnati Bengals +300 They have a slightly better chance than the Browns of making the Playoffs, but the AFC North belongs to Pitt and Baltimore.
St. Louis Rams +350 It’s hard to imagine seeing the Rams have a worst season than they did last year. They should be healthy and pick up more than the 2 wins they managed last year, but I don’t see them making the playoffs.
Detroit Lions +600 The Lions aren’t likely to see the playoffs for at least a few years.
Kansas City Chiefs +300 Kansas City went all out for Matt Cassel, who of course proceeded to get injured. The Chiefs showed signs of life late last year, but they aren’t a playoff team in 2009.
