2009 NFL Predictions: Houston Texans
Written August 21, 2009 by Nick Scarpa
The Houston Texans are an exciting team on the rise that have the misfortune of playing in the rugged AFC South. The offense is in place to make another run to the postseason but the suspect defense will need to pick up the slack for Houston in 2009. Another 8-8 finish is the most likely scenario for Houston despite some changes in personnel made on defense.

The Houston Texans have all the elements to succeed on offense: A quality QB, strong running backs, and explosive wideouts. QB Matt Schaub is an above-average NFL QB that has an excellent grasp of the offense and should have an big year. Schaub turns the ball over more than his coach would like but he is dangerous with the deep ball to Andre Johnsonn. WR Andre Johnson could be the best in the NFL and he has to be accounted for at all times. Undersized RB Steve Slaton was the rookie rushing leader in 08’ because of his excellent vision, soft hands and breakaway speed. The O-line is only slightly above-average with LT Duane Brown being the weak link. After finishing 17th in scoring offense last season look for the Texans to finish in the top-10 in 2009.
A Texans defense that finished 27th in points allowed plans on getting more aggressive in 09’. The D-Line is a strength with DE Mario Williams a disruptive force that changes games. Also on the line are two quick inside players in DT’s Amobi Okoye and Travis Johnson. The line backing crew has only one true starter in DeMeco Ryans but they drafted a strong run defender in the 1st round with Matt Cushing. The secondary was almost non-existent last year with only one true player of starter quality in CB Dunta Robinson. Special Teams are in good shape with some dynamic return men.
