2009 NFL Predictions

Written July 22, 2009 by Jason Lowry

2009 NFL PredictionsWe are fast approaching the 2009 NFL season, and it figures to be another exciting season full of surprises and disappointments. In 2008 we had our fair share of surprises with the amazing turnarounds in Miami and Atlanta, while few fans figured to see New England and Dallas sitting at home when the postseason got underway. That’s what makes the NFL so great, a team can go from the bottom of the barrel one year to the top of their division the next. Here is a quick look at how I see the 2009 season shaping up, including my playoff predictions.

AFC East: This figures to be a very good division from top to bottom in 2009, as all four teams have the talent to make it to the postseason this year. The New England Patriots should move back to the top of the division with the return of quarterback Tom Brady, but don’t count out the Miami Dolphins who won this division last year. The Buffalo Bills are hoping that the addition of Terrell Owens can jump start this team into a legit threat in the East, while the New York Jets hand the reigns over to rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Bet the AFC East this season at Sportsbook.com.

AFC North: There looks to once again be a battle between the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the team they beat three times last year the Baltimore Ravens, but don’t be surprised if the Cincinnati Bengals don’t jump into the mix this season with a healthy Carson Palmer back at quarterback. The Browns don’t figure to be much of a threat this season, as they still are unsure who there starting quarterback is going to be. Bet the AFC North this season at Sportsbook.com.

AFC South: The Tennessee Titans had complete control of this division for pretty much the entire season, as they really came on strong with Kerry Collins at quarterback to go 13-3, but I still think the best team in this division is the Indianapolis Colts. The team that will threat the top two is the Houston Texans, as they continue to stock pile young talent. It wasn’t that long ago that the Jacksonville Jaguars were considered to be Super Bowl contenders, but after a miserable season in 2008, it looks like a rebuilding year for the Jaguars. Bet the AFC South this season at Sportsbook.com.

AFC West: This division figures to be one of the worse divisions in football this year, outside of the San Diego Chargers, who figure to run away with this division. The Denver Broncos have made some serious changes getting rid of head coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback Jay Cutler. The Oakland Raiders stunned everyone in the draft taking Darius Heyward-Bey over Michael Crabtree, and still look to be rebuilding. Finally the Chiefs have been very busy this offseason, but still figure to be a year or two away from really being a threat in this division. Bet the AFC West this season at Sportsbook.com.

NFC East: This division is absolutely loaded with talent once again in 2009, as any of the four teams could wind up winning it. The edge for the top spot has to go to the Philadelphia Eagles, but close behind them are the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. The Washington Redskins finished last in the division in 2008 going 8-8, and unless this team surprises I see a very similar result in 2009. Bet the NFC East this season at Sportsbook.com.

NFC North: This could end up being the most interesting division in football this season, as we still wait to see if Brett Farve will join the Minnesota Vikings or finally stay retired. The Chicago Bears got the franchise quarterback they have been wanting for years when they traded for Jay Cutler this offseason. The Green Bay Packers could wind up jumping to the top of this division if the defense can adjust quickly to the 3-4 defense. Lastly everyone will wait and watch to see if the Detroit Lions can win a game this season, and if their No. 1 overall pick of Mathew Stafford was gem or a bust. Bet the NFC North this season at Sportsbook.com.

NFC South: This is another division that is pretty well stacked from top to bottom, as all four teams finished above .500 last season. I believe that the Carolina Panthers will once again reign supreme in this division, but it won’t be easy as the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints figure to be right on their heals. I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will drop off a bit in 2009, as they must adjust to a new coach and starting quarterback. Bet the NFC South this season at Sportsbook.com.

NFC West: I have a hard time seeing the Arizona Cardinals drop out of the top spot in this division, as they have a ton of confidence going into this season after nearly winning the Super Bowl last season. I look for improvements for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks, while the St Louis Rams figure to hold down the bottom of this division again in 2009. Bet the NFC West this season at Sportsbook.com.

What EAST COST STATE Are you in??
You have 2 teams the Chargers have beaten numerous times in the last couple of years in the playoffs, going further into the playoffs. The Titans and The Colts. Are you joking???
The Colts don’t even belong on the same field as the Chargers come playoff time. Haven’t you ever noticed how Manning CAN NOT beat the Chargers????As for the Titans. We have also beaten them a couple of times in the playoffs the last few years. Chargers 15- and 1 and Super Bowl Champs!!!!
THE EAST COAST BIAS IS A JOKE!!!! Why does EVERYONE move to San Diego from the East Coast, and them COMPLAIN about EVERYTHING?????????
